Ambient Alchemists: Sound Distillation Vol.002 // Bentodd

About: Bentodd is the musical project of Ben Todd (shocking, I know). Ben grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and was immersed in music from an early age. The first instrument he learned to play was piano, but it wouldn’t be his last. He played trombone in his high school’s jazz band, and dabbled with various other instruments in his spare time. Even with all of his music experiences growing up, Ben never felt driven by his musical endeavors.

It wasn’t until Ben was in college that he discovered electronic music in the form of Pretty Lights. This discovery changed Ben’s musical outlook completely, and not too long after he began producing music on Ableton. Ben became obsessed with music in a way he hadn’t been up to that point. That was in 2012, and Ben has been honing his craft ever since.

What does “Sound Distillation” mean to you? Sound Distillation is the process of music becoming an expression of feelings that have no other output.
