Russell Bynum is a seasoned artist with decades of experience painting horse portraits. He began in high school, running a portrait business from his home where clients mailed in photographs of their horses. Promoting his work through publications such as American Horseman, BloodHorse, Western Horseman, and others, he developed a diverse portfolio featuring breeds from Quarter Horses and Saddlebreds to Morgans and Thoroughbreds.
This early venture supported him through college and continued for several years alongside his work at an advertising agency, after which he painted more selectively. During the pandemic, however, Bynum rekindled his passion for equine art—this time embracing a more expressive, contemporary approach. Incorporating acrylics, oils, water-based oils, pouring techniques, and metallic accents, his evolved style is both dynamic and visually striking.
“Blue Splash” exemplifies this creative shift. The painting features a poured background of blues, grays, and whites, creating a soothing, atmospheric effect. Its palette evokes calm and balance, making it an ideal focal point for a living space—whether displayed above a mantel, sofa, or accent chair. A custom silver frame enhances the piece, adding a refined finish.
For those seeking artwork that blends strength with tranquility, “Blue Splash” offers a compelling choice. The original painting is priced at $1,000, with smaller prints available for $400. Bynum retains full copyright of the work.
