Finally able to make some more progress on her. Still mostly working in Grey scale at this point to get the values within the range I want them. Painting in ink the bright yellows and oranges of the fire to come won't be visible if I try to paint it over the darker spots, so getting the brightest spots white first will make the fire burst off the canvas. That's the theory any way. I've never tried my hand at painting realistic fire before might find out I have to adjust the plan along the way.

Anyway, back to work!

Oh no. I just realized this has to be a 2 painting set, and there's a lot that needs to happen still to this one to make it work. No way I'll get it all done before submitting to the revelations show. Will just have to finish this one and price it extra high so it's less likely to sell before I get to display it with its partner piece. Really wish this show wasn't for another 6 months though cause the second piece will balance out the darkness and horror of this piece.

Gonna have to keep my Playlist extra dark to keep me in the right headspace to finish this one cause I'm ready to paint pretty things again. May be unwise to try to extend my depressed state but maybe practicing doing that will help me learn to extend my optimistic states.

That's the beauty of making pareidolic art though. The canvas tells me what to paint and in this case it's telling me it needs a whole ass second painting. The problem with this style is that I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was originally supposed to be done 3 weeks ago and now I want 6 months to finish lol.

I'm just glad depression does impair my ability or desire to paint. Definitely impairs my ability and desire to communicate though so don't fret if I go silent for the next 5 or 6 days. This time I'm doing it on purpose. Let's see if I can make it worth it. The reward will be getting to spend the next month or 2 painting happy things. Unless of coarse that canvas tells me it needs to be dark af too lol.

Oh yeah, I've been working on her too. Havnt posted any progress in a min cause I've only been working on her at live painting events. I always forget to snap pics with so much going on at them.

If I'm being real I havnt been posting much at all recently cause I've been extra depressed. It's silly cause it makes me not really enjoy or desire human interaction, but human interaction %100 the best way to pull myself out of it. I suppose it's just one of those "own worst enemy" things.

Anyway if you ever notice me subtly going into hiding, check in on me. I won't want to talk if it's a depression thing, and I'll never admit when I'm in it, but 90% of it is a feeling that no one cares. Just having the reminder that you do, no matter how close we are, helps.

That reminds me. Ive got some folks I should probably check in on.

Making some progress on the revelations piece. Only have a week left to submit it and I could easily spend months finding and filling out all the hidden figures. I love pareidolic art but a could go on forever on a single painting. Glad this has a deadline otherwise I might.

Hadn't posted this cause I really didn't know if it'd become anything worth sharing. It's starting to show signs it might actually end up as spectacular as I imagine though so here you go!

This is done using a technique that relies heavily on pareidolia, which is the phenomenon of seeing familiar shapes in an otherwise random pattern. Like seeing a bunny in the clouds, or a face in a photo of the surface of mars. This is a super time consuming process as most of my time is spent looking for faint shapes that aren't really there, and the slowly exagerating/filling it in to become actually there.

Another huge thank you to Jose Gomez and House of Shadows gallery for supporting my art and the "Requiem for Zemyna" raffle! Studio is coming together nicely and even had a chance to some painting today!

This Saturday 4-9 will be my first block party as a resident at Studios at 5663! I know it's a bit too far for many of you but if you're in the bay area, come welcome me to the neighborhood!!!

Take home a beautiful last minute gift or something to spoil yourself! Or just come to see the art in person before it's gone! Either way I'll be happy to see you!

I will also be at the Gulfport indie fair for the first half of the day with Kelly Wullner who will be holding down the tent when I head back to the studio at 4. Busy day but you all make it worth it so I hope to see you at one place or the other! Or even both!!!

On the heals of losing a massive commission I finally got accepted into a great studio space! Between working for 3 months on what I thought would be an $18,000 job turning out to pay not even %10 of that, and nearly $1000 in move in expenses, I am more broke than I've been in years.

I havnt said much about losing the Rise of Dracula commission for several reasons but I'm finally in a place where I can talk about it without being either very sad or very angry. First of all, tbh it's quite embarrassing to have been so wrong about what the job would really be and part of me would like to just pretend it didn't happen. That and I don't have any desire to speak negatively of them and it's taken me a while to be able to speak on it at all without doing just that.

Today I can honestly say I don't have anything negative to say about them at all. I'm not posting to blame anyone as it all amounts to a simple missundertanding but there is still the unavoidable fact that that missunderstanding led to me pouring all of my time for 3 months into a job that didn't pay well enough for me to have the financial freedom to devote the time I did to the job.

Like I said though, as much as it did kick my bank account in the dick, I'm choosing not to asign blame to anyone. I gain nothing from being pi**ed off at myself about it and I gain nothing by being pi**ed off at them, and I know not how to separate anger from blame. I'm not interested in being pi**ed off, I'm interested in continuing to work my ass off to make the best art I can and whether or not a commission goes sideways, that will always be what I do.

The real point of all this is to say I need to liquidate some art asap. As much as that might make it make sense to lower my prices I simply will never do that. Lowering my prices is inseparable from devaluing my own art and I owe it to everyone who has purchased my at in the past to never do that.

There are few scenarios in which you will purchase anything in this world and have the seller continue to work for the rest of thier life to make sure it's worth perpetually more than it was the day you bought it. You will find that in few other markets outside of art but I don't think most artists even understand how absolutely essential it is to commit to just that.

I want you to sell my art for drastically more than you paid me for it. At its surface many artists feel that equates to them losing out on the difference and in part they're right, but this is the part they seem to so often miss. If you sell my work for 10× what you paid me, you've just set the presidence for me to sell for more, and everyone else who already owns my art enjoys that same vicarious increase in value.

The Rise of Dracula job was a set back but I will find bigger and better jobs. After a missive turn for the better since moving to Florida, I suffered a huge and unexpected set back no doubt, but the trend is very much still upward.

So my promise to you, as investors in my art and as future investors in my art, is this: Everything I do as an artist, so long as I still have breath, is intended entirely to increase the value of your investment. Through improvement as an artist, as a marketer , as a salesman and as buiness owner, all of which I have perpetually gotten better at and will perpetually get better at into the future. Though there will always come unexpected setbacks, not a one of them will make me doubt or rethink that commitment.

I know this was really long-winded but I hope at the very least it provides some clarity as to the current state and future of EnTactus art. The current state is not at all rocky but I understand why to some it might appear that way. My commitment to this way of life has been tested and it has not wavered in the slightest. This is who I am and this is what I do. As long as I am still here, this will remain true. As long as I am here, I will improve and though setbacks will come, they will be recieved as but unpleasant indicators of how I might best improve.

Invest in EnTactus art today. I promise the future does not offer a better time to do so. I went all in 5 years ago when there was little evidence I could make it and I've sacrificed and fought tooth and nail to get where I am today.

It felt like pulling teeth just to get people to pay $50 for my work 5 ears ago and I'm now regularly selling paintings for thousands of dollars. If my art being worth next to nothing to virtually everyone wasn't enough to make me think I couldn't do it, there's no setback that could ever make me think it cannot do it now.

The wise do not wait to taste lemonade to invest in lemons. Maybe lemons arent the most apealing metaphor for my art. Anyway you get the point. Now go invest in lemons.
