10/21/2026

☀️Summer retreat photo dump

🍂We ended the summer retreat singing and swaying along to Jessalynn Levine’s “V’ahavta.” Now, with the high holidays behind us and seasons changing, we are turning back to the love and warmth we felt at the Summer retreat.

🎵Hoping to tune in, too? Whether you joined us in-person or not, we invite you to check out our summer retreat SoundCloud playlist, including music from participants and our Retreat teachers: MJ Gilbert, Neta Elkayam, Amit Hai Cohen & Rachel Chang.

🙏A huge thank you to everyone who collected songs throughout the weekend and helped capture these recordings. We’re excited to keep these songs circulating and singing them together! Link in bio to tune in!

➡️In the meantime, looking for more opportunities to join in Jewish communal song? Check out our upcoming Shabbaton in 🍁Minneapolis🍁this November 13-15! Link in bio for more info.

🤍 In just a few short days, we will be entering the portal of the High Holidays and, with it, the new year. During this season, we are invited to engage with cheshbon hanefesh, accounting of the soul, and dig deep into the goings-on of our inner world. In that spirit, we are revisiting a traditional morning piyyut (hashkama) shared by LMPS teachers Neta Elkayam and Amit Hai Cohen at this year’s summer retreat. It’s called “Simu Lev Al haNeshama (Pay Heed to the Soul)”, and was written by Rabbi Shmaya Kosson (16th c), and sung by Neta Elkayam in the musical language of the Algerian Andalusian tradition (Mode: Tba‘3 Dil). Stay tuned for a full recording, coming soon!

It starts quietly…

Then the niggun takes over the room 🎶🌀

A little glimpse of the joy, movement, and energy we found at the 2026 Summer Retreat.

We’re letting this feeling carry us through this last week of Elul, and into the High Holiday season. 💛

💙We are so grateful for the rich, soul-filled time we got to share together at the 2026/5786 Summer Retreat. With the company of the pines and hills of Isabella Freedman, over delightful conversations at meals, during the deep learning from our teachers, and while absolutely sweating buckets…We were blessed by countless songs. Some ancient songs, some brand new tunes, and infinite moments of being transformed by the power of singing together. We are leaving with a renewed awe in what we can do, when we do it together. In the words of a participant: “LMPS allows me to feel in a time where I’m having so much trouble accessing my emotions. It allows me to imagine different possibilities for a Jewish future - one that is rooted in justice and allows everyone to feel at home in their Judaism.”

🙏For those who joined us in person, thank you for bringing your broken hearts, your courage, care, and voice to the space – we quite literally could not have done it without you. For those who weren’t with us in person, we want to keep growing this project with you – check out the link in our bio to stay up to date on some ways to stay connected, and keep sharing music with one another. May we all continue tapping into the power of communal song to reveal the cracks and openings needed to get us through these times.

🌀 As our tradition teaches us, looking backwards is the only way we can step into the future with awareness and care. Your feedback will directly support our future programs

💙 Thank you for being a part of LMPS’ future. As a token of our appreciation, all survey respondents will be entered into a raffle to win $50!

🗓 Survey closes: Thursday, September 10, 2026
