When I was asked to perform this song, I hesitated, both because the lyrics are gut-wrenching and because I wasn't sure if this song fit my vocal range / style. Although I am into all kinds of music, I typically only perform higher energy songs in public. After a day or so of doubting myself, I finally told myself, why not, and gave it a go. Thankfully, it came out okay.
This experience was a reminder that other people often see something in us that we don't always see in ourselves. The lesson here is to be open to the perspective of others. Our individual perspectives are limited, but if we open up to the perspectives of others, we see more, we see clearly, we see with understanding. The combination of self-belief and the belief of those around you is powerful. Don't underestimate the impact your voice can have.
