The General Who Led From The Front
He was the first to step onto the battlefield and the last to leave. Hal Moore wasn't just a commander; he was the soul of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment.

During the brutal Battle of Ia Drang in 1965, his leadership defined a generation of soldiers. His story, immortalized in his book "We Were Soldiers Once… And Young" and the powerful 2002 film, reminds us that true courage is found in the heat of the valley.

Hal Moore passed away in 2017 at 94, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, tactical brilliance, and a promise never to leave a man behind.

Rest in peace, Sir. Your boots can never be filled.

THIRTEEN HOURS: THE PRICE OF REMEMBERING 🇺🇸
Thirteen hours. No relief. No certainty. Just a choice.

On September 11, 2012, a U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, descended into absolute chaos. With no immediate backup and no clear plan, a small group of security contractors faced the ultimate test of character.

While the world saw headlines, these men saw fire, RPGs, and mortar rounds. Men like Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty didn't have to stay. They chose to. They moved under fire, returned every shot, and held the line until the morning light, even as the cost became their lives.

We honor the grit, the sacrifice, and the 13 hours that redefined what it means to stand your ground.

They stayed so others could live.

THE MAN WHO REFUSED TO STOP FIGHTING
Billy Waugh was the living definition of "built different." After being rejected by the Marines at 15 for being too young, he waited exactly three years and joined the Army. That set the tone for a career that spanned three wars and six decades.

From the first combat HALO jump in history to leading MACV SOG’s secret missions in Vietnam, Waugh was a ghost in the jungle. In 1965, he was shot in both legs, an arm, a foot, and the head. Left for dead, he was saved by the legendary Paris Davis. Most men would take their Purple Heart and go home. Waugh took his eighth Purple Heart and went back to the front lines.

His "retirement" was just a prequel. The CIA recruited him at 47 to hunt the world’s most dangerous terrorists. He tracked Carlos the Jackal and surveilled Osama bin Laden long before the rest of the world knew their names. At 71, when most people are enjoying a quiet retirement, he was on the ground in Afghanistan just weeks after 9/11.

He finally hung up his boots at 75. Billy Waugh passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of 64 countries and countless classified missions. A true American titan.

THE WOMAN WHO TURNED AN AMBUSH INTO A VICTORY 🇺🇸
March 20, 2005. Salman Pak, Iraq. What began as a routine convoy es**rt quickly spiraled into a deadly "kill zone." Surrounded by dozens of insurgents and pinned down by heavy machine-gun fire and RPGs, Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester faced a choice: take cover or take charge.

She chose to fight.

Instead of waiting for backup, the 23 year old MP led her squad straight into the line of fire. She didn't just defend the convoy; she went on the offensive. Hester dismounted her vehicle, charged toward enemy trenches under intense fire, and cleared them in close quarters combat.

The result? 27 insurgents neutralized and every single American soldier survived.

On June 16, 2005, Leigh Ann Hester became the first woman since WWII to receive the Silver Star for direct combat action. She didn't set out to make history; she simply refused to let her team fall.

True leadership knows no boundaries. Courage is not about who you are, but what you do when the world starts burning.

The Legend of "Tactical Rick Moranis" 🇺🇸🦅

Don’t let the glasses and the mild-mannered look fool you. You’re looking at Sergeant Major Mike Vining—one of the founding fathers of Delta Force and a true titan of American Special Operations.

From the jungles of Vietnam to the sands of Desert Storm, Vining’s 30-year career reads like a history book of every major mission from the Cold War through the '90s:
📍 Vietnam
📍 Iran (Operation Rice Bowl)
📍 Grenada
📍 Haiti
📍 Desert Storm

He’s famously known on the internet as the "least likely looking operator," earning the nickname "Tactical Rick Moranis." But that’s the thing about the men who have actually been in the arena—they don’t need to look like a Hollywood action star. They just need to get the job done.

Mike Vining didn't just look the part; he lived it. A quiet professional who was always where the action was.

Respect to a living legend. 🫡

THE NURSE WHO REFUSED TO LEAVE: COURAGE UNDER FIRE 🇺🇸🩹
At just 24 years old, Joan McDermott traded her quiet life for the front lines of Vietnam. She didn't go because she had to. She went because she felt a calling to be where the need was greatest.

In her very first week, Joan’s hospital came under relentless bombardment. For three days, she lived and worked beneath an operating table, refusing to stop tending to the wounded even as the world shook around her. Her reason was simple: "I couldn't leave my boys."

Joan’s story is a powerful testament to the selfless spirit of our military nurses. They are the silent pillars of strength who carry the weight of war in their hearts long after the smoke clears. This Memorial Day weekend, we honor the brave women who stood their ground to bring our heroes home.

Thank you to every nurse who has served. We will never forget your sacrifice.
