Last year, Forgotten TV spent nearly two hours going ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐ค ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐๐ง๐ ๐ง๐ค๐ค๐ข, tracing the history that led from radio horror through ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต๐ด ๐๐ถ๐ต, ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ, ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ธ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต ๐ก๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ and ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ณ๐บ to ABC's short-lived 1981 horror anthology ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ.
At the time, ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ remained one of those frustrating television obscurities that seemed destined to stay buried in the Universal vaults. The series has never been released on any form of home video in the U.S. NBC (who merged with Universal in 2004) briefly made it available through their website some years ago, but otherwise legitimate access has been remarkably scarce. That is finally changing.

And Forgotten TV friend Amanda Reyes will be lending her commentary to two of the episodes! The "From 4K Scans of the 35mm Original Camera Negatives" may be the part of this announcement I find most encouraging.
Universal has an enormous television library, including a number of short-lived/obscure series that have never received home video releases. As we've discussed before, archival preservation can also be complicated by the loss or uncertain status of materials over the decades.
Yet here is ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ : a seven-episode series from 1981, never before released on disc in this country, being pulled from the Universal library 45 years later and given a new 4K restoration. Universal found the surviving film elements and Kino Lorber knew there was still an audience that wanted to see them, well past the heyday of packaged media.
I get a particular kick out of seeing this announcement arrive less than a year after Forgotten TV spent weeks talking up ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ on the socials and released an extensive history of the series. But kudos to Kino Lorber for bringing this one back into the light โ or perhaps, appropriately, out of the darkroom.
And I particularly enjoyed spotting this comment from LetsGetPhysicalMedia over on the Blu-ray forums:

Hmmmm. ๐ค A few of those are VERY much in our wheelhouse around here.
So, Kino...what are we pulling out of the Universal vault next? ๐
