Gratitude post: God, I love being a deathworker. I love being a death, dying, & grief researcher. I love being a death doula. I love being a former forensic death investigator. I love getting to be there for people on their darkest days & give some answers, at least (if not solace & healing). I love sitting with the dying & with the dead. I love doing all this in my Chicano, Jewish, & curandero ways. It can be heavy, but I’m so damn grateful this is my life’s work. Benditos sean los mu***os.

I’m honored, humbled, and blessed to be a part of this program and to have been guided by such an incomparable group of transborder scholars. My dissertation still needs a LOT of edits and there are ceremonies and diplomas to contend with…but the hard part is done. I’ve arrived at the place I’ve been consistently working towards for 22 years, when I picked up my first forensic anthropology book at 15 years old. My heart is full; my cup runs over ❤️‍🔥
