Founded in 2014 by Rachel Segal and Kenneth Bean with the help of David Segal, The Primavera Fund seeks to continue the vision of Maestro Joseph Primavera that music is a powerful tool for building good citizens. By working together with music educators in Philadelphia, we provide the necessary tools for success to driven, young Philadelphians.

It is with great sadness and deep respect that we mourn the passing of a true trailblazer in the Philadelphia music scene, and one of the kindest and friendliest people who ever graced the stage. Booker Rowe was the first Black musician ever to perform in the Philadelphia Orchestra. A Philadelphia native, he was trained in the Philadelphia sound and added commitment, professionalism, and honor to the orchestra for almost fifty years. He was a dedicated teacher and chamber musician, and a true star of Philadelphia. May his memory be for a blessing.

The Primavera Fund is honored to have received the 2026 Community Impact and Arts & Culture Grants from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. These grants will help expand access to high-quality music education, ensuring that more young musicians have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive through music.

This support strengthens our mission and allows us to continue providing transformative musical experiences for students and families throughout our community.

Last night, Executive Director Rachel Segal performed with Jennifer Hudson and Patti LaBelle at the MLB All-Star Game as part of the Philly Pops. Also in the orchestra were cellist Pat Daniels, violist Ashley Vines, and violinist Rebecca Ansel, who have all taught our Artists. We are honored to have such amazing musicians guiding our Artists on their musical journeys. Some day soon our Artists will be on the world’s largest stages, just like their mentors.

Is it really summer if you aren’t in nature playing music? One of the most beautiful experiences that we provide for is access to summer music festivals. From Vermont to Shenandoah, our students work hard over the summer to refine their skills & craft. Thank you to all of the summer music festivals being ran across the country, & good luck to students as they continue to push the boundaries of their practice & playing 🎶

Congratulations to out 2026 Primavera Fund Graduates! They performed amazing final recitals in May & will be heading to amazing schools like New England Conservatory, Drexel, Princeton, & West Chester. We know this is just the beginning of their journey & cannot wait to see where their journey continues 🎓🎶🎻

has been the largest funder of art and culture organizations in Philadelphia since 1991. And while essential support for art and culture funding across the country continues to be jeopardized, Our City has an opportunity to prioritize and value art and culture in the FY27 Budget. As said, when others step back, Philadelphia steps up. Invest $6 million in PCF.

As the 2025–2026 Primavera season comes to a close, we are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable growth and accomplishments of our talented artists at this week’s upcoming recitals on Thursday and Friday. Throughout the season, our students have demonstrated exceptional dedication, discipline, and passion in every aspect of their musical journey — from weekly lessons and individual practice sessions to orchestra rehearsals and ensemble performances. Their commitment to refining their technique, deepening their artistry, and strengthening their overall musicianship has been truly inspiring to witness. Each artist has embraced new challenges, developed greater confidence in their performance abilities, and contributed meaningfully to the vibrant musical community that defines the Primavera Fund.

Congratulations to Primavera Fund Artist, Cole Nemer, who went through two qualifying rounds via video performance then competed at NATS Eastern Regionals at Susquehanna University where he placed 1st in his category. We are so proud of all his hardworking, talent, & ambition & we are excited to see where it will take him!
