Pecola Breedlove & The Freedom Party It was founded by the poet and organizer Christopher "KP" Brown (also known as KP ULTRA).

Originally established in October 2014, Pecola Breedlove & The Freedom Party is a popular, West Philly-based open-mic poetry event and creative community platform.

Here’s a new concept we’re introducing called Designated Poets.

We created the Designated Poet slot because honestly we had a limited amount of feature slots and spotlights that we could offer this season. There are hundreds of poets in Philly. We only had 10 feature slots and 7 spotlight slots. But we had a long list of poets we wanted to highlight this season.

We selected each designated poet because we respect their work and want to give our audience numerous chances to experience their work this season (June 30th - Sept 29th). Each designated poet will perform at least three times this season as a part of our open mic. This will allow us to maintain a standard of quality even during the open mic sections of Breedlove.

In return each of these ten poets receive free admission throughout the season (even on nights they don’t perform) and their books, merchandise, or upcoming events will be promoted directly through the Breedlove event and/or our social media outlets.

Put your hands together for our Designated Poets! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
