His work doesn’t follow tradition; it predates it. From outlaw gospel to myth-lit ballads, from Spanish liturgies to Dutch psalms and French benedictions, every

record is both archive and altar. Each lyric is a fast fiction in song — brief, burning, unflinching — carried in the grain of his voice and the glow of his myth. This is music for the silenced and the scorched, the ones who kept breathing when nothing was left to breathe for. This is the fire already lit. This is the gospel before scripture. One of the questions that sits underneath all of my work is this:

What does your attention make visible?

I don’t believe attention is neutral.

I think what we repeatedly notice, ignore, normalize, question, or amplify eventually becomes part of the moral architecture of the world.

Lately I’ve been spending time with the work of SOFIA ISELLA.

Not because she sees the world the way I do.

Because she doesn’t.

What I value is the particular quality of attention present in the work.

The willingness to remain with contradictions.
The refusal to mistake familiarity for truth.
The instinct to look again at what others have already accepted as normal.

We live in a culture that rewards certainty and speed.

But some artists offer something different.

They teach us how to notice.

And whether or not we arrive at the same conclusions, I believe there is value in spending time with people whose attention expands our own.

That’s one of the gifts art can offer.

Not agreement.

A wider field of vision.
