A rant: I think this game is too hard to learn to do well if you're too far behind
I played for a long time back in late Classic to the very start of MoP. I'm probably the target demographic for Classic with the exception that I really like a lot of the various conveniences.
My problem is really simple - I want to play at a much higher level than my skills seem to allow. I've tried extensively trying to improve:
- daily rounds at the dummy
- doing content (again and again and again...)
- not just reading the talents, but downloading them, analyzing them in Excel, and making flow diagrams understand what interacts with what
- reviewing numerous sites (WowHead, Icy Veins, Method) to see if one made more sense than the other
- reviewing logs on Warcraft Logs, Wow Analyzer, and Wipefest.
I'm just trying to be decent enough to stay through a whole heroic raid and to maybe time 12's. The Internet (here, forums, etc) tell me this is ROFL easy.
Except it's not. I can fail at these on a paladin and a beast mastery hunter. I wish I was trolling.
The problems are:
- uptime. 75% uptime is my HIGH, which the Internet tells me is beyond trash. I can even fail at uptime with the one button. Yes, it's possible. I'm trying to stay in range. I have Wildu Tools. I have no idea how you folks predict where the tank is going to go or how to dodge and still cast enough (yes, even with OBR)
- managing what I can only call a very picky order of spells with each one having various dependencies. Maybe if I could find ways to build up to this, it'd help, but you don't actually get a drip of abilities in a reasonable way to learn them. In the past, WA could be training wheels. I came back after it died. Current tools are not enough.
- trying to scale up on mechanics - delves aren't enough to teach you. Keys are hard to tell because of the group.
There are so many things I like about this game, but trying to overcome this current chasm is not one.
Nope - not AI. Just advanced degrees.
Getting this off my chest. I fully expect this to get deleted or pilloried off the face of the earth.
