Repair order: The harmonica is still in the process of being completed but here’s a quick before and after of the sticking slide.

Removal of corrosion other adjustments to the slide assembly allowed it to become much smoother and easier to use. There are more modifications that I can do to the slide and slide assembly to improve the airtightness and make the slide nearly silent but this is just a repair order, not a custom order.

I hope you enjoy this in-progress video! 🔧

New post coming up, but it’s been a busy time. I’ve just come back from SPAH where I performed, did some emergency repairs for people, and also gave a bass and chord harmonica lesson to. These three harmonettas are playing great! Far more in tune with as precise tuning as possible, and responsive with more volume on some troubling notes. Two feature my custom waterproof gaskets which I’ll also write more about soon.

This restored harmonetta is now back with its owner in Connecticut, US. It turned out to become a great playing harmonetta that was very airtight and features two of my custom made gaskets which are waterproof and won’t absorb smells or fall apart like the original and aftermarket paper gaskets. Part of the difficulty of taking a harmonetta apart is if the paper gaskets stick which can lead to a tear. My gaskets won’t do that. They provide a great sealing quality, too! These are all qualities to help the Harmonetta last longer.

This harmonetta had the usual issues of harmonettas bought used after being in storage for many years: bad odors from mold or mildew, windsavers that have dried and fallen off, corrosion from the stored moisture, poor response and intonation, and “ghost notes” where a note will play even when the key is not pressed down. After careful adjusting of the moving parts and reshaping of the brass valves all of these issues were resolved.

The beautiful opalescent windscreen was actually added by the customer after the original black windscreen was covered in mold! I love the look!

Someone messaged me privately and asked where do the arms go. They go in there usually where you can’t really see where they actually attach.😩

Almost done but this happened. Time to reattach these arms that fell out.

Several harmonicas are being serviced right now, includng this Hohner Music Harmonetta. After dismantling probably around 200 mostly springloaded parts I thought I’d make a quick video showing one of the main causes for rattling sounds and airy notes mainly from Harmonettas that haven’t ever been serviced, or haven’t in a while. Enjoy and please hit the like button! 😊

More work coming in, including several more harmonettas!
