For years, surveillance cameras known as Automated License Plate Readers, or ALPRs, have quietly tracked Americans’ movements by scanning and storing license plate data from passing cars, often without warrants or probable cause.

Unlike red light or speed cameras that activate when laws are broken, ALPRs collect information on everyone, creating a massive surveillance dragnet that threatens Americans’ privacy and constitutional rights.

That’s why Rep. Scott Perry’s amendment to ban ALPRs on federally funded highways, except for tolling purposes, is such an important step forward.

Americans for Prosperity Pennsylvania is proud to applaud Senator Dave McCormick for introducing the Unlock American Energy & Jobs Act, legislation aimed at addressing America’s energy affordability challenges by cutting unnecessary red tape and expanding energy production.

Right now, a broken federal permitting process is delaying critical energy projects, costing thousands of jobs and billions in economic opportunity, including right here in Pennsylvania. Reforming this system would help unlock our state’s abundant natural resources, create family sustaining jobs, and lower energy costs for households across the Commonwealth.

As permitting reform has already passed the House, we encourage leaders in the Senate to come together and support this commonsense solution. Pennsylvania has the potential to lead the way in energy production, and this legislation is a key step toward making that a reality.
