Sitting on the beach with Shane and thinking about how much I really love a piece of advice from a woman’s story on a few years back. So here it is... “There’s three things you can do when life sends a wave at you. You can run from it, but then it’s going to catch up and knock you down. You can also fall back on your ego and try to stand your ground, but then it’s still going to clobber you. Or you can use it as an opportunity to go deep, and transform yourself to match the circumstances. And that’s how you get through the wave.”

dia siete de Guatemala: our second build day was tough! We were sore and tired but powered through mixing the concrete (a lot of it), wrapping up the foundation, pouring in the floor, and beginning to cut and install the wooden frame. The four of us along and our leader called ourselves “muy divertido” as we worked to keep smiles on our faces even though we were covered in sweat, concrete, and sawdust. A huge thank you for all those who donated to our trip in any way. The funds you provided purchased ALL the materials for the 3 houses our service team was able to build - from the cinder blocks, concrete, and wood all the way down to the nails and paint. This humble house will change lives.

Dia seis de Guatemala: Shane’s boots, from the last time we were here in 2010, still have that magic blue color on them. Today we rode in trucks to our worksites to begin building - day 1 of 3. After spending the weekend relaxing at the lake it was time to get down and dirty. The house we are building will last approximately 40 years and will exist on a small plot of land that houses 14 family members. They live in tight quarters and less than ideal conditions - mostly with dirt floors and makeshift roofs/walls. Check out our progress as we work to give this family a clean place to sleep.

dia tres de Guatemala: morning volcanic views with my roomie , food and vegetable distribution at The Dreamer Center, bus to the lake for the weekend, and epic scoops of guacamole! Soaking in all the beauty this country has to offer and feeling fortunate for the friends I get to share this experience with. Super thankful to all who helped send us here!

Dia dos de Guatemala! Worked and played in the malnutrition center (Casa Jackson), took in all the beautiful tropical plant life, said hola to Cody (el perro), meals made with love from our host Janet, site visits with the families we will be building homes for, served cena at the homeless shelter, and rounded out the day with well earned margaritas and flights at . We’ve been experiencing so much gratitude and love from children and families with so little. The level of kindness and endless amounts of smiles has brought a feeling of home and of purpose. Brushing up on some español too! @ Asociacion Nuestros Ahijados
