🏛️ CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS HISTORY | LYNNEWOOD HALL
It’s not every day you have the opportunity to build on the grounds of one of the Philadelphia region’s most remarkable historic estates.
BAM Construction recently completed a 40-foot accessible ramp and freestanding deck platform at Lynnewood Hall in Elkins Park—a project where function, craftsmanship, and respect for the architecture all had to come together.
Built in 1899 and designed by renowned architect Horace Trumbauer for industrialist Peter A.B. Widener, Lynnewood Hall is an extraordinary example of Gilded Age architecture. When working alongside a property with this level of history and detail, simply building a functional ramp wasn’t enough.
The entire structure was designed and built to be temporary and completely freestanding, allowing it to provide the necessary accessibility without permanently altering or attaching to the historic mansion.
But temporary didn’t mean basic.
One of the defining details of this project is the craftsmanship incorporated into the 20 deck posts. Each individual post is made up of 66 separate pieces of wood—more than 1,300 individual pieces across the posts alone. Every detail was designed, fabricated, and installed to complement the architectural character of Lynnewood Hall and make the new structure feel at home alongside a property built more than 125 years ago.
This was the kind of project where the details mattered just as much as the finished product. We’re proud that BAM Construction was trusted with the opportunity to bring our craftsmanship to such an important historic property.
Temporary by design. Built with the attention to detail of something meant to last.
