A Legacy of Love and Loyalty

If you know Geoffrey Harrington Partridge, then you know his radiant smile. You know the way he wanted everyone to feel included and appreciated and loved. How he’d go out of his way to reach out to you to make sure you were ok and if you weren’t, he’d help you find perspective to feel more positive again. If ever you needed Geoff, he’d be there any time, any place. Because if Geoff considered you friend, he considered you family. And he was fiercely loyal to his family.

When we lost Geoff almost a year ago, I was left with 15 years of loving memories and a roomful of art. We were each other’s biggest supporters and collaborators. We helped silence our biggest critics...ourselves...and pushed each other toward our creative potential. We each interpreted our worlds through art -- Geoff, through paint and drawing and me, through dance and sculpture. A piece was never finished until it passed through each other’s hands. We worked together to keep a fresh perspective and to clear creative blocks. When Geoff passed, I thought I would never be able to finish another piece because I thought I had lost my partner. But it turns out that he lives on through his art and still has so much to say. Geoff has created a lifetime of work at various stages of completion and it has become my mission to share his work with the world.

SmileForever is a project that takes its name from a painting of Geoff’s that hangs in our living room, just next to our back door. It takes its philosophy from the way Geoff lived his life -- with relentless positivity in the face of constant obstacle and hardship. No matter what struggles Geoff faced, it was always with determination and resolve to find a solution that we persevered.

This project, SmileForever, is one way I have found to move toward healing myself from the trauma of suddenly and tragically losing the love of my life as well as a way to share his light and love with the world.
