That’s why etymology matters.

Many words we use today didn’t always mean what we think they mean. For example, the word “nice” originally meant ignorant or foolish.

Today people hear it as a compliment… but historically it meant something very different.

When you start studying the roots of language, you begin to see how words can shape identity, belief systems, and narratives.

Understanding words gives you discernment when you walk into different rooms, conversations, and environments.

Language is powerful.
Awareness of language is protection.

Be mindful of the words you speak.
And the words spoken over you.

We know words and labels have power when they are accepted, and acceptance shapes self-identity.

Self-identity that is unquestioned and/or blindly accepted could lead to a false identity. So, have we really checked where these labels originated, who created them, and for what purpose? 🤔
