In honor of here’s a beautiful swarm we caught on a windy yesterday at a local organic farm. They were calm but I put my veil on mid way because it keeps me calm when I know I’m going to shake them on my head (which we didn’t film because all our hands were occupied). Bees are miraculou inspirational creatures! Pleased do all you can to make this a world where we can coexist.

I bought a basic Flow Hive box back when it was just a kickstarter campaign. I couldn’t get the bees to draw comb on it so I stored it away for years. Finally, last year, I installed it on my studio hive, and the bees started drawing it out. I had to babysit it while I harvested, scooping bees out of the honey if they fell in, watching them ride honey droplets and snack off the edges. I did get one sting, but I think she was from another hive. Definitely a slower process than standard harvesting, but if you just have 1-2 hives, it’s a pleasant experience.

Kiln unloading! Admittedly, this is sort of a tease post because you can’t really see the details from above. Good photos are coming, just incredibly distracted by bees right now. Excited about new butter dishes, nesting bowl sets, and new deep sea lamp. Please be patient! These and more will be with me at the upcoming Mushroom Festival 5/23-24 in McCloud, CA. Come forage some morels and pottery with me!

The mushroom festival in McCloud is coming soon! Though I’ve yet to see Amanita Muscaria on Mt Shasta, I can’t resist the iconic red with white spots. Can you?
