Whether you’re an experienced DJ with hundreds of events under your belt, or just stepping behind the controller for the first time, understand this: the DJ field is crowded—and it’s competitive.

But don’t let that discourage you.

In this industry, you’ll come across DJs who’ve been doing it for years, who may look down on beginners or try to belittle what you bring to the table. Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s direct. Either way, it says more about them than it does about you.

Truth is, every great DJ started exactly where you are—learning transitions, building playlists, reading a crowd, and figuring out their sound. Nobody skips that process. Nobody is born with it.

So if you’re new, embrace the grind. Practice your mixes. Learn your equipment. Study the craft. Take the small gigs. Build your confidence one set at a time. Every hour you put in is an investment in your future.

And most importantly—protect your energy.

Don’t give your time, your focus, or your peace to the ego of others. Some people will try to elevate themselves by putting others down. That’s not growth—that’s insecurity in disguise.

Stay focused on your journey. Let your work speak for itself. Let your improvement be your response.

There’s room for you in this space. There’s an audience waiting for your sound, your style, your presence.

Keep going. Keep learning. Keep showing up.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about who’s been doing it the longest—it’s about who stays committed, who keeps evolving, and who refuses to quit.

I'm upfront and honest about my DJ business. 1) I'm in it because I enjoy doing it. I absolutely love the ability of music to bring people, from all walks of life, together for an enjoyable time. And 2) Like most Americans, I have bills to pay because the cost of living is not free. However, my rate/prices are far lower than most DJ's but that doesn't mean you receive a lower quality of service... It simply means:: lower rates/prices more accessibility, and more accessibility means more work doing what I enjoy doing.
