THE STORY BEHIND:

These were commissioned by a client for an engagement party in the Mississippi Delta.

And I knew from the beginning that I wanted these birds to feel like more than just a party favor. I wanted them to tell a little story of home.

Cindy loved the mossy, aged look of my Mississippi Aged Birds, but also loved the little swiggles and movement in my blue birds.

So we decided… why not combine the two?

The challenge was finding a way to bring those elements together while still keeping with the white party theme.

The lichen I use on my birds is harvested from the woods right here in my backyard. So, when I started thinking about how to bring these two looks together, I went wandering.
I came across the most beautiful brown fungi, covered in little waves of color.

And immediately, I saw the Delta.

That rich, earthy brown reminded me of the soil of the Mississippi Delta — land known for growing some of the best crops in the country.

It felt like the perfect way to bring a little bit of home into these birds.

A little earth. A little color. A little Mississippi.

And so, 61 little birds became a homage to the groom’s hometown — made to celebrate where he comes from as the two of them get ready to make a home of their own.

It’s that time of year again- the studio is hiring a paid fall intern!!!
