What an original. Amazing to see how one woman inspired so many.

A songwriter and musician whose influence extended across genres, she was also a successful businesswoman and humanitarian:

Whether through her music, brands, or a million books, Dolly Parton’s own special flavor of zany sweetness touched the world.

Including our own little ground zero for the blues: Dolly Parton's Imagination Library donated books to children right here in Clarksdale's community. Honor her spirit by supporting a local library like Clarksdale Carnegie Public Library –

Or by rocking out with other inspiring women!

Some of our favorite Women in Blues are in town this weekend. Come see:
🎶 THU 8p Heather Crosse’s Heavy Suga & the SweetTones at Ground Zero Blues Club
🎶 SAT 8p Keeshea Pratt Band Experience at Ground Zero
🎶 SUN 7p Bear Ryan Music at Auberge Clarksdale Hostel
🎶 MON 6p Charlotte Taylor at Hopson Hospitality

…All incredible singer-songwriters with originals of their own.

Dolly once said, “Being a star just means that you just find your own special place, and that you shine where you are.”

Cheers to Dolly and her legacy – and all who make your own special place just a little sweeter and brighter. ✨

Raise your glass to great neighbors and another great Mississippi weekend! The Rosedale Distilling Company is officially OPEN and celebrating with tours, tastings & music all weekend long. (Incl. Sunday brunch until 1:30!) 🚗 Plan a detour en route home from seeing our friends rocking the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic (lineup+details in link) Friday+Saturday:

Robert Johnson famously sang about "Goin' down to Rosedale" in his Travelling Riverside Blues. It's long been a stop for Mississippi River Blues travelers --

And will soon be famous for something else!

Rosedale Distilling is crafting spirits right here in the Delta.

This years-long project preserved and refurbished a 130,000ft warehouse and several buildings in downtown Rosedale. It's a labor of love from Elizabeth and Jack Coleman in their hometown, bringing new industry while honoring its history.

Jack grew up working in his grandfather's Rosedale hardware store. He remembers waiting on the legendary bootlegger Perry Martin, who bought his whiskey barrels there. As Jack explains,

"Martin buried his whiskey-filled barrels in the sandbar of the Mississippi River to avoid discovery, creating a product so good that it was asked for by name in speakeasies across the South and in Chicago, and even served in the Governor’s mansion! Because Mississippi was the last state to repeal prohibition, Mr. Martin never made a legal drop of his fine whiskey… He died in 1968, just after breaking in a new still. Rosedale Distilling will be the first distillery to make legal whiskey in the Mississippi Delta!"

Perry Martin Corn Whiskey was released yesterday.

Sip it yourself at the gorgeous new tasting room, the "Rosedale River Club," downtown at 305 Court Street. (Then GPS 5mins from Hwy-1 to "Terrene Landing" for a detour-from-your-detour and one of the best spots to watch sunset over the Mississippi River.)

The distillery is at 1 Perry Martin Road (formerly AMPCO Road) and opens at Noon Saturday. Ribbon cutting is at 1pm, with tours and merriment to follow.

Dr. Shannon Myers plays Friday night, Terry "Big T" Williams plays Saturday, and the Aaron Smith Jazz Band plays Sunday brunch.

Check their website for full schedule and details. And as always when you Visit the Mississippi Delta, visit Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Arts & its website for where to catch live blues ALL 7 nights a week here.

From here to Hill Country, Mississippi knows how to honor our past, present AND future:
with great music, great people, and great spirits! 🍸🥰🎶

Come celebrate the Birthplace of American music, in this place where it all began. Clarksdale's BAMFest is this Saturday 6/20, from noon past midnight, in venues across town.

Come see Frank ‘Guitar’ Rimmer, Terry ‘Big T’ Williams, Lady Trucker, Terry ‘Harmonica’ Bean, the Grandboiz, Stud Ford, Robert Kimbrough Sr., Jake & the Pearl Street Jumpers, & Edna Nicole AND Cannonball Red -- all with one wristband, in one incredible day.

Their website has the detailed schedule with locations, and Cat Head's lists live blues all over town, all week long.

Can't make it this weekend? We've got live blues all 7 nights a week. And Cory & the Delta Blues Alley Cafe are rebuilding, ready to rise like a phoenix from their fire... in this place that knows how to make music of resilience, and inspire new genres and generations through song. 🔥

Anyone here a fan of Son House? The Son House Tribute Festival is this weekend! Come see Grammy nominee Jontavious Willis and BMA nom Erin Harpe - Roots & Blues play Saturday 5/29 8pm at the The Holy Moly, a super cool hidden gem downtown.

🎶 Friday 5/30 7pm at Hambone is Cash's Juke Joint, Deak Harp & Watermelon Slim. More events and details are on the festival website, including...

Who was Son House?

"Born in the Clarksdale area in 1903, Son House was a Delta blues legend whose influence still shapes music today. He mentored icons like Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, and his sound can be heard in artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Jack White, and Taj Mahal.

After stepping away from music in the 1940s, Son House was rediscovered in 1964, leading to a powerful late-career revival."

We're so proud he's among the legends who were born and influenced here -- and love how this new festival is honoring him. Kudos to Dr. B, Kayleigh, and the whole Blue Room & Son House team! 💙

Cheers to 25 years of Ground Zero! Founded by Bill Luckett and Morgan Freeman as a way to bring revitalization and blues back to the heart of their hometown... Seems they've succeeded, no?

We now have live blues 7 nights a week, all year long.

Miss T, Sadie & Casey still lead a whole team serving up the best music and Southern food. They've taken the show on the road this year with Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience. It's the brainchild of co-owner Eric Meier, who's at the helm with co-owner Howard Stovall (who's going strong with his Mighty Roots Music Festival too!).

Bill Luckett was our mayor and an accomplished guy, but visit his law office and what was he eager to discuss? Ground Zero Blues Club. Voted #1 in the world he'd remind you, beaming.

Bill would be so proud.

The Anniversary was one of his favorite parties, and it's still a great one.

It's starting now. Tix are at the door or online, Fri+Sat. and come raise a glass to the team at its heart, and the musicians who make it sing.

(Then head down the street to the Tater SuperBad Blues Festival Saturday, Bad Apple Blues Club Festival Sunday, Levon's for their 10th anniversary, and live music at great venues across town. Full schedule on the Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Arts website as always!)

Congrats and thanks to the whole team. Here's to many more.

🎶🥰🥂
