Why It’ll Be So Windy This Weekend 🌬️ | Meteorologist Explains
Hold onto your hats, North Carolina. A powerful cold front is sweeping through late Friday into early Saturday, setting the stage for dangerously strong winds and bitter cold across the region.
As the front pushes out, cold, dense air from above crashes down to the surface, mixing with daytime heating and creating intense wind gusts. With high pressure clearing the skies, there’s nothing to slow the air down — so the wind really takes off.
💨 What to expect:
Mountains: Gusts up to 55–60 mph, wind chills below zero
Foothills & nearby areas: Gusts up to 50 mph
Central areas: Gusts 35–40 mph, wind chills in the teens and 20s
⚠️ High Wind Warning: Friday 7 PM – Saturday 7 PM
⚠️ Wind Advisory: Same time frame for areas east of the mountains
Bottom line: This is not your average breezy weekend. Secure loose items, limit travel if possible, and bundle up — this blast of winter means business.
