Tropical Storm Cristobal Forms in Atlantic as Forecasters Watch Next System

Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the Atlantic, becoming the third named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. As of Wednesday, August 12, it had maximum sustained winds of about 45 mph (72 km/h) and was roughly 880 miles west of the Azores, moving east at around 25 mph. Current forecasts keep Cristobal over the open Atlantic, with weakening expected and no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Attention is also on another Atlantic disturbance, Invest 92L, which had a high chance of developing further. If it reaches tropical-storm strength, the next name on the 2026 list is Dolly. Its future track and intensity are still uncertain, so claims that it will definitely hit the Caribbean or United States would be premature.

🚨 Breaking News: 11 Killed in Australian Shooting Targeting Jewish Community 🚨

At least 11 people were killed after two gunmen opened fire at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday during an event linked to the Jewish community, Australian officials said. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns confirmed the attack has been declared a terrorism incident, saying it targeted the first day of Hanukkah.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the violence as an “act of antisemitic evil.”
Police said 29 others were injured, including two officers. One suspect was killed, while a second alleged shooter remains in critical condition.

The shooting sparked panic along the popular waterfront as crowds fled the area. Emergency crews responded within minutes and continue to support victims and families.
