From Skinner House:

"A Prayer for My Queer and Trans Siblings

"Here you are.
Here, in this holy space,
on this ground that is holy
because you are here.

Here you are, in flesh and bone,
filling up this body that belongs to you alone.
Your pumping heart is a wonder
because it keeps you alive.
Your loving heart is a blessing
because it keeps all of us alive.

The Spirit of Love has a home in you.
May we all see that love in you
and let our hearts become mirrors
for the compassion at your core.

The Spirit of Justice has a home in you.
May we light our wicks
from one another until we are all aflame,
until we burn out every prejudice
we carry in these bones.

Here you are.
Holy as you are.

Blessed be."

From Skinner House -

Spirit of Life
whom we have called by many names
in thanksgiving and in anguish—
Bless the poets and those who mourn
Send peace for the soldiers who did not make the wars
but whose lives were consumed by them
Let strong trees grow above graves far from home
Breathe through the arms of their branches
The earth will swallow your tears while the dead sing
“No more, never again, remember me.”
For the wounded ones, and those who received them back,
let there be someone ready when the memories come
when the scars pull and the buried metal moves
and forgiveness for those of us who were not there
for our ignorance.
And in us, veterans in a forest of a thousand fallen
promises,
let new leaves of protest grow on our stumps.
Give us courage to answer the cry of humanity’s pain
And with our bare hands, out of full hearts,
with all our intelligence
let us create the peace.

Black Cat Cafe -- nice work, as usual!
Will the Cafe re-open on June 12?
Last night at the Black Cat...Chip closed it out with all hands on deck. John C. Was on the side with his guitar, and Jim was at the back on harmonica. There might have been others behind me.
Phil Schneider was recently in Paris, France, and found a Black Cat Café! Obviously based on the original in Orlando, of course....
I'm sharing this comment from Eric from the MeetUp page: "It's becoming too unwieldy, to where a player has to come an hour early in order to get to play without having to wait three to four hours. You ought to change the slots to a limit of 2 songs, not to exceed 10 minutes total. That would reduce everyone's wait time 50%." What do others think?
I hope it's appropriate to share this here....many of the Black Cat musicians have performed at Lundyville Music Hall's Acoustic Stage, including John Cunningham, Chip Dockery, Steven Grayce, Susie Cool, and more. The Music Hall sustained major roof damage during Irma, and can't afford to fix it without help. Phil Schneider is hosting the "N**e Ruth" (new roof) Music Festival on October 21st, with 16 acts taking the stage from 10am to 6pm for the sole purpose of raising money to "raise the roof" through music and donations. We ask for your help in spreading the word through the community! And hope to see you on the 21st for a great and worthy cause. For more information, please check out Lundyville's page.
Hello everyone. Will September Black Cat still be in the sanctuary this month? Hope to see you there.
Where will the cafe be held in July?
