THE CAT IS BACK!!

The first live Black Cat since March 2020 occurred Friday 11 Nov and was a definite success!

Performers included Alex Moore 6 string guitar, Barry Brogan 12 string guitar, "The Buzzards" (Fred Shelke 5 string banjo, Mike Benoit 6 string guitar, and Brad Thomson 6 string guitar), Carina Cook 4 string ukulele, John Cunningham 6 string guitar, Michael Benoit solo 6 string guitar, Phil Schneider 6 string guitar, and Chip Dockery 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, and harmonica. Presentations included covers and original works of traditional folk, folk rock, ballads, and a special remembrance of the WW I Armistice Day /current Veterans Day song.

The famous Black Cat audio deserves special mention. Carina Cook, in addition to performing, began audio tech training under John Brockman's instruction and mentoring, and did a fine job of running the mixing board last Friday. Thank you John and Carina!

The next Black Cat will be the second Friday of December, the 9th.

See Ya At The Cat!

From Skinner House:

"A Prayer for My Q***r and Trans Siblings

"Here you are.
Here, in this holy space,
on this ground that is holy
because you are here.

Here you are, in flesh and bone,
filling up this body that belongs to you alone.
Your pumping heart is a wonder
because it keeps you alive.
Your loving heart is a blessing
because it keeps all of us alive.

The Spirit of Love has a home in you.
May we all see that love in you
and let our hearts become mirrors
for the compassion at your core.

The Spirit of Justice has a home in you.
May we light our wicks
from one another until we are all aflame,
until we burn out every prejudice
we carry in these bones.

Here you are.
Holy as you are.

Blessed be."

From Skinner House -

Spirit of Life
whom we have called by many names
in thanksgiving and in anguish—
Bless the poets and those who mourn
Send peace for the soldiers who did not make the wars
but whose lives were consumed by them
Let strong trees grow above graves far from home
Breathe through the arms of their branches
The earth will swallow your tears while the dead sing
“No more, never again, remember me.”
For the wounded ones, and those who received them back,
let there be someone ready when the memories come
when the scars pull and the buried metal moves
and forgiveness for those of us who were not there
for our ignorance.
And in us, veterans in a forest of a thousand fallen
promises,
let new leaves of protest grow on our stumps.
Give us courage to answer the cry of humanity’s pain
And with our bare hands, out of full hearts,
with all our intelligence
let us create the peace.
