Let’s talk tape! One of many tools in an athletic trainer’s kit. I primarily use kinesiology tape for a little extra support and biofeedback. (Biofeedback in this case being increased awareness and mind-body connection.) I find it useful for areas that are difficult to tape otherwise and for performers and athletes who either can’t wear or don’t want bulkier or more rigid options.

This was an Acro artist-athlete from .town Acro Wonderland who wanted some support for her shoulder and told me she felt her shoulder was more stable than without the tape, especially for the long days of a festival.

How do you use kinesiology tape? What are other ways you add some extra support? Exercises? Meditation?

Multiple studies have shown that dancers can have injury rates as high as football players. In professional athletics, teams often have multidisciplinary medical, health, and wellness teams that include professionals such as sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, massage therapists, dietitians, sport psychologists, strength and conditioning coaches, chiropractors, and more. All of these professionals are well educated in the unique needs of the population(s) they treat.

Artists and crew members of all types and genres are active and athletic and have high rates of injuries, yet they often don’t have reliable and consistent access to healthcare professionals who understand the demands on artists and crew.

Artists are athletes, and all active bodies deserve expert care that addresses the needs and concerns of each person. As healthcare professionals, let’s keep working together to expand access to underserved populations. To the artists and crew members, treat your mind and body like the artist-athlete you are.

Having a little vulnerability moment…I want to pat myself on the back a little bit. Being a solopreneur can be tough. I’m still hustling behind the scenes to generate a solid income and follow my dreams with this business.

I’m proud of myself for the work I did to prepare for Acro Wonderland. From getting out of my comfort zone to propose being at the event, to planning what I would offer and bring, to designing flyers and forms, and everything else it takes to coordinate bringing my small business to an event.

I’m looking forward to taking this momentum and energy into 2026 and seeing where it will take myself and my little business venture. (Advice from fellow colleagues and solopreneurs welcome!)

I truly can’t say enough about this past weekend with .town Acro Wonderland. I’ve worked with Acro performers who were in shows and events I’ve worked before, but I’ve never stepped into the Acro community like this. They are such a warm, welcoming group of people from all over the country (and world). This wasn’t surprising and not unlike other arts communities, but it was heartwarming and endearing. Not only did I see some really cool Acro talents and skills, I also met so many incredible people who shared their stories, experiences, and adventures. I’m glad I was able to help many of these artistic athletes take care of their bodies through the weekend.

One of the things that impressed me the most was Acro Town’s commitment to their core values and how you could see each one represented the entire weekend.

One of their core values is home and safety, and it was a clear priority throughout the event. They had medics all weekend who could respond to first aid and emergencies as needed, myself and were there providing our services, frequent hydration and nutrition breaks with snacks and water provided, encouragement to seek out mental health services and a local mental health provider who attended the event, education about safe techniques, and more. One of the most impressive parts to me was that many (maybe even most or all?) of the sessions guided and encouraged a dynamic warm-up at the beginning of their sessions. It wasn’t a “one-and-done” or “sit in these stretches for 30 seconds” type of warm-up.

Yet another piece that impressed me was the commitment to giving back by their donations and raffle benefitting Give Kids the World. It’s a beautiful organization here in Orlando, and I highly recommend checking them out if you aren’t already familiar with them. ( )

Edward and Mimi (and the instructors, ambassadors, and attendees) have cultivated a truly lovely community. I’m so thankful to them for the opportunity to make new connections by welcoming me and my business into their community for this event. I hope it continues into the future even though Acro Wonderland itself had its finale.
