News, developments (which is still kind of news), and chit-chat about "the bunny", "the ferret", "the pound", "the club", "the volcano", and at least two more Ned-penned musicals which haven't yet been shortened to "the (noun)"!

Hope to have some news to share soon! I've got to do *something* with this page, after all.

I can spend my time addressing every perceived weakness of my shows, but that won’t guarantee their success. It certainly won’t shield them from further criticism. Human nature being what it is, the only real way to subdue the criticism is to make the shows so appealing that people find it more rewarding to enjoy their strengths than to pick at their weaknesses.

My first job is to identify and name that particular appeal.

I'm truly unqualified to start a small business. But once upon a time, I was truly unqualified to write a musical and I did it anyway. I'm now written seven and I'm DEFINITELY somewhat less unqualified.

Maybe the same principle applies to starting the small business?

There comes a moment in the rehearsal process of all my shows (usually early in tech week) where my initial enthusiasm is depleted and I'm frozen in premature stage fright and wondering if there's any way we can just call off the whole show.

Happy to report that, for the volcano, I'm now past that point. It was milder than previous episodes, too.

I gotta say that having productions of three of my shows within a month of each other, as well as a good chance of a fourth one early next year, is a better mood booster than any mental therapy I've ever had. By far. No contest.

A day or so ago on the Orlando Fringe lawn I encountered the original producer and director of TJ & Mr. Oaksite, and told them that the show would be produced at DOTS Fringe in Springfield this coming July.

Them: I suppose you've done some rewrites?

Me: I really didn't! I submitted the working script from our first production.

Them: GOOD! It's fine the way it is!

Thus marks the first time I've ever been encouraged to avoid editing my work. This may take some getting used to!

Just saw a pic of the DOTS Fringe 2026 Impossible Club cast, none of whom I've met yet, at their first table read, doing the super secret hand signal.

As Bullwinkle said, I don't know my own strength! 😜

Editing script to reflect changes you made in the score: tedious and not a lot of fun.

Editing script to reflect changes you made in the score right before a rehearsal where actual performers will benefit from the edits: magical and uplifting.

There could be a bunny resurgence within the year.

Not that I'd want to count my carrots before they hatch.
