Firelight Media, Black Public Media, Latino Public Broadcasting, and Pacific Islanders in Communications invite emerging BIPOC filmmakers living in the U.S. Territories and Hawai‘i – and their diasporic communities – to submit proposals for a new season of documentary short films, HOMEGROWN: A Part Of/Apart From. From the Heart Productions, the top-rated 501(c) non-profit, now has two film grants available this Fall. One for indie filmmakers and a new one specifically for student filmmakers.
Roy W. Dean Grant for Fall 2023
The Roy W. Dean Grant for indie filmmakers is now accepting applications for its Fall Grant. Awarded to a unique film that makes a contribution to society, the winner will receive $3,000 cash and thousands more in film services to help them complete their project. Deadline for submissions is October 31st, 2023.
Now completing its 31st year, the Roy W. Dean Grant has awarded over $2,500,000 in cash and donated film products and services to dozens of filmmakers enabling them to finish work on their projects. Documentaries, short films, narrative features, or web series are all eligible to be considered for this grant. Students are welcome to apply.
In addition to the cash prize, the grant recipient will receive $15,000 in theme music for their project from award winning composer David Raiklen, $6,000 in animation from Emmy winner Charlie Canfield, $500 in expendables, grip, or lighting from Filmtools, 20% discount on the design of your marketing sheet by professional Dan Chapman, and much more from many heartfelt donors.
Carole Dorothy Joyce Grant for Student Filmmakers
New this year is the Carole Dorothy Joyce Grant which is just for student filmmakers. Winner of the grant will receive $3,000. From the Heart will also be adding film production service donations to the grant. Grant seeks short fiction films from students that are unique and that make a contribution to society. Deadline for submitting projects to the Carole Dorothy Joyce Grant is November 30th 2023

Awarded to a film that is unique and that makes a contribution to society, the deadline for submission to the Roy W. Dean Grant for Summer 2023 is June 30th. The grant for independent filmmakers includes a $3,500 cash prize and thousands more in donated film production services and products to the winner complete their film.
From the Heart Productions, the 501(c)3 top-rated non-profit which has sponsored the grant since 1993, will also offer the Britt Penrod Award. $500 will be awarded to an applicant with a film that makes an exceptional contribution to society.

On January 26, 1989, the Orlando Sentinel reported that shooting would begin the following week on the Ron Howard-directed film "Parenthood." The movie, released later the same year, included scenes filmed at Tinker Field, Delaney Park, and the Publix on Edgewater Drive, among other Orlando-area locations. Dean Film Grants have awarded funding to independent filmmakers with unique films that make a contribution to society. From the Heart Productions, the 501(c)3 non-profit sponsoring the grant, is proud to having helped these filmmakers complete these amazing films and bring them to the public.
The grant is open to documentaries, narrative features, short films and web series. In addition to being unique and making a contribution to society, projects should be budgeted at $500,000 or less. Students are welcome to apply.
Winner of the Roy W. The 501(c)3 non-profit that sponsors the grant, From the Heart Productions, has awarded over $2,500,000 in cash and services to dozens of filmmakers since the inception of the grant in 1992. Many have gone on to create award winning films.
Included in the long list of donated services awarded to the grant winner is $15,000 in theme music for their project from award winning composer David Raiklen, $6,000 in animation from Emmy winner Charlie Canfield, $500 in expendables, grip, or lighting from Filmtools, a one week DSLR camera package rental from Birns & Sawyer, and much more from many heartfelt donors.

$500 will be awarded to grant applicant with a film that is unique but also makes an exceptional contribution to society. The grant is made possible by a generous donation by its namesake, Britt Penrod, who has been a great supporter of independent films. Winner of this award does not need to be the Roy W.
