Atlanta rapper Gunna has been released from jail after he pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge in a sweeping gang indictment against him, rapper Young Thug and several other alleged members of the Young Slime Life criminal street gang.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne was the only television journalist in the courtroom Wednesday as Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, faced a judge.

The rapper entered a negotiated plea, known as an Alford plea, in which a defendant doesn’t admit he committed the crime, but acknowledges that it is in his best interest to plead guilty. The charge Gunna faced was one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Act.

Gunna was sentenced to five years with one served in prison. The one-year sentence was commuted to time served. The four-year remaining balance on his sentence has been suspended and will be subject to special conditions including 500 hours of community service.

After the sentence came down, the rapper released a statement, saying:

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Despite saying that he will not testify, it is a condition of Gunna’s trial that he testifies if he is called, though he can claim the Fifth Amendment.

Gunna, Young Thug and 26 others were arrested in May in a sweeping gang indictment that claimed YSL is a violent criminal street gang that has committed multiple murders, shootings and carjackings over the course of a decade. Prosecutors said that the rappers promoted the gang’s activities in songs and on social media.

11/02/2022

The ex-wife of former NBA star Dwyane Wade is reportedly accusing him of exploiting their 15-year-old transgender child, Zaya Wade, for financial gain.

Siohvaughn Funches-Wade is also asking a court to intervene and prevent Zaya from legally changing her name and gender until she turns 18, the outlet "The Blast" reports.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Funches-Wade filed an objection to Wade's petition for recognition of Zaya's potential new birth certificate, which would legally identify Zaya as female.

Wade is "attempting to circumvent the requirements of the Illinois final custody order judgment entered on March 14, 2011," Funches-Wade claims in her objection, saying that the March custody judgment requires both parents to discuss "major decisions affecting care, welfare, activities, health, education and religious upbringing" of their two children, which includes Zaya.

Zaya first publicly came out as trans in 2020 when she was only 12 years old, according to The Daily Mail. She has since reportedly scored modeling contracts with brands like Dove and Tiffany, and has attained a large social media following. Funches-Wade apparently believes Wade is encouraging and pressuring Zaya to engage in this behavior, as it stands to make him money, especially if Zaya lands a deal with Disney.

Funches-Wade reportedly claims that her concerns come from conversations she had with her ex-husband. In one claimed instance, Wade and his ex-wife spoke about Zaya and the money he was making from her deals.

As previously stated, Zaya's mother wants her to wait until she is 18 before making any life-altering decisions, such as legally changing her name and gender. Funches-Wade also believes Zaya "might not fully be on board" with the legal gender change, but pressure from her father, the media, the money and other sources may be pushing Zaya towards that lifestyle, the documents show.

Takeoff, one-third of Migos, is dead after an early morning shooting in Houston ... TMZ Hip Hop has confirmed.

Law enforcement sources, and multiple witnesses, tell us the fatal incident went down shortly after 2:30 AM ... that's when cops got the call for a man shot at a bowling alley called 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston.

We're told Takeoff and Quavo were there playing dice when an altercation broke out and that's when someone opened fire, shooting Takeoff ... either in the head or near his head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

TMZ Hip Hop has obtained footage from the scene, and you can see Quavo -- in an orange shirt -- and others gathered around Takeoff. At first they tried to move him, but then put him back down, and Quavo yelled for someone to get help.

Police tell us 2 other people were shot and were taken to the hospital in private vehicles. It's unclear what their conditions are. Quavo was not injured.

Just a couple of hours before the shooting, Takeoff posted a selfie from the bowling alley. Quavo had posted video earlier in the night, driving around Houston with Jas Prince, who was celebrating his birthday.

Takeoff, who's real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was the youngest member of Migos. Quavo was his uncle, and Offset his cousin.

Takeoff was 28.

Lil Duval apologized to GloRilla on Thursday (Oct. 27) after making fun of her birth name — Gloria — on social media earlier this week.

Lil Duval has had a change of heart and has apologized to Memphis rapper GloRilla.

On Thursday (Oct. 27), the comedian issued an apology on his Instagram account to the “Tomorrow 2” artist after mocking her name earlier this week. The Instagram post features a screenshot of his tweet, which refers to Glo’s clap back from earlier this week. “Per Gloria Hallelujah: Duval has cut ties with Lil,” the tweet reads. In the caption, he wrote: “I wanna apologize to the whole GloRilla community. Please don’t cancel me.”
As previously reported by REVOLT, the 45-year-old actor posted a tweet over the weekend expressing his views on women in their 20s having older names. In the post on Saturday (Oct. 22), Duval wrote: “Nobody born after 2000 should be [named] Brenda, Linda, or Gloria.”

The 23-year-old emcee — born Gloria Hallejuah Woods — responded the next day with a jab of her own, criticizing his use of “Lil” in front of his name while in his 40s. “Nobody over [the] age of 45 shouldn’t still have ‘Lil’ in their name,” Big Glo responded with three laughing emojis.
Duval took the jab in good humor, joking about being height-challenged; therefore, the name was appropriate. “I’m Lil tho,” he said in a tweet. Later, he shared the tweet on Instagram with the caption, “Ms. Gloria thought she ate [laughing emojis]. Nice try, suga.”

In other GloRilla-related news, the young artist is up for her biggest award as she has received her first American Music Award nomination. On Thursday, Oct. 13, the “F.N.F (Let’s Go)” rapper was revealed as a nominee for the Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist award, going up against Nicki Minaj, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion and her “Tomorrow 2” collaborator Cardi B.

Due to producer Noah “40” Shebib getting COVID, the project will now arrive Nov. 4 instead of its planned Friday release.

October’s Very Own is shifting to November.

Drake took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday night (Oct. 26) to announce that his joint album with 21 Savage, Her Loss, will now arrive next week instead of this Friday as planned.

Drake & 21 Savage Announce Joint Album 'Her Loss' in New 'Jimmy Cooks' Music Video.

The rapper revealed that his go-to producer Noah “40” Shebib got COVID, so the mixing and mastering of the album has been delayed.

“Our brother got Covid while mixing and mastering the crack so he’s resting up,” Drake’s message revealed. “NOVEMBER 4th is HER LOSS day we’ll see you soon.” He wrapped the note with a devil and rose emoji.

21 Savage shared the same message to his Instagram Story.

OVO Sound also shared the news, tweeting the new 11/4 release date for Her Loss along with the Friday release of DVSN’s Working On My Karma.

Drake and 21 Savage only announced the album on Saturday, with the news tucked into a new music video for their “Jimmy Cooks” collab from Drake’s most recent project, Honestly, Nevermind. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 at the end of June, as the album also started atop the Billboard 200.

Drake and 21 Savage have become frequent collaborators over the years, previously teaming up for “Knife Talk” from Drizzy’s Certified Lover Boy last year, “Mr. Right Now” from 21 Savage’s Savage Mode II collab album with Metro Boomin in 2020, Drake’s stand-alone release “Sneakin'” in 2016 and more.

It appears the University of California, Berkeley will offer a course on the superstar.

The professor who is rumored to be teaching the course took to Twitter to reveal the title “Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie, Femmecee & Hip-Hop Feminisms”

But not everyone is cheering the idea as the singer has come under fire before for some themes and lyrics.

But many students believe her music offers a new take on feminism from a female artist at the top of a male-dominated rap scene.

“I think she had broadened the definition of what it means to be a feminist and how we are reciprocal to music that portrays our bodies in different ways,” said Escobar.

Cal students are practicing their own rap skills, hoping the 10-time Grammy nominee will make a guest appearance after she tweeted about the course saying she would love to stop by.

It's not the first time pop culture has entered the classroom. UC Berkeley studied Frank Ocean in the past and San Diego State and NYU have hosted courses highlighting Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift.

A deep dive into music culture students believe is more about society than the artist themselves.

UC Berkeley released a statement Monday afternoon thanking everyone for their interest, but noting the course is still in the idea stage and under review.

"We appreciated the interest in this topic. The instructor’s course proposal is in the idea stage and is in the early process of departmental planning and review. Once developed and approved, the course would be part of an African American Studies Special Topics in Cultural Studies course the instructor is scheduled to teach this spring. It is too soon to offer much more information at this point. Thanks again for your interest,” the university said.

Police released bodycam video Monday of a fight last week between a 15-year-old student and a school resource officer at St. Cloud High School moments before the boy was arrested.
According to officers, the incident, which occurred at the 2000 19th St. campus on Thursday, Oct. 6, was sparked after Officer Ball attempted to break up a fight between two 14-year-old boys and was subsequently attacked by the 15-year-old student.

Body camera video shows the boy grabbing Ball after he sees him restraining one of the 14-year-old students. Ball and the boy then grab each other and the teen body slams the officer to the ground and pummels him. People can be heard yelling “Stop!” before pulling the boy away from Ball, who then restrains the teen.
School footage also shows the moments leading up to the brawl during which the 15-year-old is seen walking up to Ball, dropping his backpack and trying to pull the officer off another student before a large swarm of people gather around them.

St. Cloud Police Department Chief Douglas Goerke also released a statement following the fight.
“Officer Ball was there to prevent two other students from harming each other. What occurred to Officer Ball was despicable and should never have happened,” Goerke said. “We will never tolerate behavior that targets our officers and will hold those accountable at the highest levels.”
The 15-year-old is facing multiple charges for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
No other arrests have been made as of yet, but police said charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence, against the two 14-year-old boys will be filed to the State Attorney’s Office.

The Orlando thrill ride where a 14-year-old boy fell to his death earlier this year is being taken down, according to a statement from the attraction’s operator, according to News 6 in Orlando.

The Slingshot Group released a statement on Thursday on its plans for the more than 400-foot attraction after the death of Tyre Sampson, who was visiting from Missouri on spring break in March.

“We are devastated by Tyre’s death. We have listened to the wishes of Tyre’s family and the community, and have made the decision to take down the FreeFall. In addition, Orlando Slingshot will honor Tyre and his legacy in the classroom and on the football field by creating a scholarship in his name.”

The Orlando FreeFall attraction at ICON Park has been closed since the boy’s death. Sampson slipped out of his seat about halfway down the Orlando FreeFall.
The Slingshot Group operated the Orlando FreeFall, and the Orlando Slingshot, but after the teen died owners of ICON Park demanded the company suspend all ride operations.

ICON Park released a statement in response to the Slingshot Group’s decision, saying in part, “As the landlord, ICON Park welcomes and appreciates Orlando Slingshot’s decision to take down the ride.”

Rep. Geraldine Thompson planned to introduce the “Tyre Sampson bill” to the Florida Legislature to “take into account the safety records of any company that wants to operate a ride of this nature,” she said during a June news conference.

“Tearing down the Free Fall Ride shows consideration for the pain still suffered by the Sampson family and members of the community. The continued presence or operation of the Free Fall Ride would be a constant reminder of the disregard for the health, safety and well-being of Tyre Sampson and others who patronize our amusement parks. I will introduce legislation that hopefully will prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again,” Thompson said in a statement.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried’s office released a statement following the announcement the ride will be torn down.

Diddy believes New York rappers should step away from regional music trends, or be left in the dust.

During a sitdown with Funk Flex on Tuesday (Oct.4), the Bad Boy Records founder discussed his time away from New York, declaring he’s “back outside” and has returned for the throne in his hometown.

While on the topic of New York’s Hip-Hop scene, Puffy expressed his concerns about the area’s artists lacking their own identities. Sean Combs, 52, claimed the city was in “last place” and pleaded with the new generation to get back to who they are historically.

“New York, we’re in last place, I’m here to tell y’all, and that sh*t comes to an end today,” Diddy proclaimed. “We’re gonna start doing us. The way you hear the beat in your head, do you. The way you move, do you. The way you dress, do you. Don’t be doing them, God bless them.”

He discussed the growing trend of drill in the “Big Apple” and urged rappers from the five Burroughs to lead the culture, not follow.

“A New York cat is not supposed to be following nobody nowhere for nothing. Because we come from a rich culture of artists and designers and creatives. New York was always leaders, and we don’t blend in, b. We from New York, the f**k? That’s what I’m doing. I’m going to lead the way,” Combs declared confidently. “I’m doing me, New York, unapologetically.”

Elsewhere, Diddy recently paid a visit to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, where he addressed his former collaborator Ma$e. The mogul claimed the Harlem rapper was a “fake pastor” who owed him $3 million.

“Ma$e owes me $3 million,” Diddy said. “That’s facts, I got the receipts. And I’m not gon’ go back-and-forth with Ma$e. I’m not going back-and-forth with nobody. I’m just gonna speak up for myself now. Anybody that thinks I owe them something, show me the receipt and you’ll get paid within 24 hours.”

Anybody can come and step up. Bring your receipts. But I’m not playing. I’m back outside, and I’m fighting back for us. And I’m also doing some fighting back for me.”

10/09/2022

The 23-year-old is facing backlash over her involvement in Kanye West’s YZY SZN 9 presentation in Paris. Marley, who is a daughter of Lauryn Hill and granddaughter of Bob Marley, walked in the show while wearing Ye’s controversial “White Lives Matter” tee—a design being loudly blasted by activists, entertainers, fashion figures, fans, and more. Critics have said the slogan is a dismissive retort to the Black Lives Matter movement, which began as a protest against anti-Black violence and police brutality.

Many social media users slammed Marley for rocking the tee, suggesting it was a slap in the face to her family, which has spent years advocating for racial justice.

Selah addressed the furor in a series of Instagram Stories posts Tuesday, claiming she would not be “bullied” into conformity.

“The past 24 hours has allowed me to realize that most of yall are stuck in a hive mind mentality,” she wrote. “You do what the group tells you to do & think what the group tells you to think. Witnessing someone break free from ‘the agenda’ sends you all into such a panic that you will do whatever it takes to force them back into the box that you feel they should exist in.”

She went on to add, “The victim becomes the victimizer. You can not bully me, manipulate me, or coax me into silence. Nor will you bully me into being who you want me to be. I don’t care how many tweets you make, DMs you send, or articles you write. Throughout all of the chaos, I have yet to speak on my experience. If you know me, you know that nothing I do is without deep thought & intention. Wait til you hear what I have to say.”

Marley also shared a screenshot of a text she recently sent to Ye. After acknowledging the negativity surrounding the tee, Marley proposed she and he “continue that conversation” to provide more clarity.

“I love taking risks & embracing freedom,” she wrote, “but in this case, I think we can continue to discuss the depth behind our decisions to show the purity of our intentions & provide healing to our community.”

10/06/2022

At least 24 children and a pregnant teacher, were killed by a former police officer who went on a shooting and stabbing spree at a day care center in northeastern Thailand on Thursday shortly after appearing in court on drug charges, police said.

As he fled the scene, the attacker drove into a crowd of people and shot bystanders before traveling home where he killed his wife, their child and later himself, police said, before confirming that at least 38 people were slain in the deadliest rampage in the nation’s history.

The suspect used a 9mm handgun but mainly attacked the children — who were 2 to 5 years old — with a knife, police said at a news conference Thursday.

“He started shooting, slashing, killing children at the Utai Sawan day care center,” Paisal Luesomboon, a police spokesperson, told the ThaiPBS TV channel.

At least 12 people were wounded, eight of them seriously, and were receiving medical treatment, the office of Police Gen. Surachete Hakparn said.

Among those who were killed in Uthai Sawan, which is 310 miles northeast of Bangkok in the province of Nong Bua Lamphu, were 21 boys and three girls, police said.

The suspect, whom police named as 34-year-old Panya Khamrab, had served at Na Wang Police Station in Nong Bua Bamphu province until he was arrested with methamphetamines last year, officials said.

Khamrab took his own life after the rampage, the officer in charge of the case, Col. Jackrapat Wijitwaitaya, told NBC News.

The suspect had appeared in court hours earlier Thursday on a drug charge that led to him being fired from the police last year.
