As 2021 comes to an end, we want to reflect on the great season we had filled with new opportunities and spooky adventures.
We’re so grateful for the memories of this past year and can’t wait to reveal what lies ahead for 2022. 🥳👻
The Pirates Cave home haunt has been providing family-friendly scares to the city of Villa Park & Orange for 22 years now.

A behind the scenes look at our “fire room” that was new for 2019. 🔥 •This was by far, the hardest effect we ever had to do.To start, we looked at the famous burning town scene at the end of the Disneyland attraction, “Pirate’s of the Caribbean.” We used many different types of material to make this scene look as real as possible. We started out with thin plastic paint tarp which had creases that ruined the effect. Then we tried a slightly orange then a white satin rolled fabric. The white satin worked the best. Once we finalized our material, we went ahead and got 2 oscillating standing fans off eBay for a steal. We altered them so they wouldn’t spin and took off the bases. We attached the material to the fans by duct tape and stapled red and orange Christmas lights to the back of a wood frame. On the front of the wood frame, we made embers with cut up coke bottles, spray foam, and painted it red and black. This project took a lot of patience and required us to test many aspects to get it just right. The final product was a success and scared many people straight out the exit.
Dave Larson started creating home haunts since he was a young boy taking over his parents garage in the 1970’s. In 1999 the Larson family moved into their own home in Orange, and the Halloween on Garfield Avenue has never been the same! It all started small with one mask and a shovel in the front yard. Today we have visitors from all over Orange County and beyond to check out our family appropriate pirate themed haunt. We don’t care for blood, so our haunt is a lot like a scarier version of Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. Each year we try to up the ante with new props and scares. Even though we keep it clean, the design and scares are guaranteed to impress everyone who comes to visit. Admission is FREE, but donations help us offset our expenses and keep the pirates coming back year after year. Let us know if you are interested in being one of our sponsors!
