Super clean PS5 that’s only a few months old came in after it stopped working during one of our Florida afternoon rainstorms. I went thru my checklist for things to check for a no power issue which led me to the power circuit for the Southbridge. I injected power on the power IC and watched the Southbridge glow. Unfortunately this storm took out the Southbridge and maybe other things but I would have to change the Southbridge out to see if there are any other issues. Customer decided he didn’t want to fix it at this time so for now it’s a wrap on this one. Video of thermal camera in comments.

Another HDMI port on a PLaystation 5. Surprisingly this one didn’t have any pins detached from the motherboard but instead had 1 missing pin from inside the port itself. As always we remove the Liquid Metal, polish APu and heatsink and reapply Liquid Metal to ensure the system won’t overheat. It’s ALWAYS good practice to do this anytime the motherboard is removed for any reason.

Out of the 4 PS2s we were working, 1 worked as normal. The 2nd one powered up but had no sound and no video, now it has both. Moving onto the 3rd PS2 which is a no video issue. It does have sound though. Pics in the comments.

On the bench today we got some PlayStation 2s Fat. We have many retro consoles and we eventually get to working on them. With any luck I’ll have some of these PS2 listed for sale later today.

Customer came in with a no power PS5. We verified that there was no beep, no light. During our diagnostic we figured out that we could turn on the PS5 by inserting a disc and the system turned on normally. We figured out the system had liquid spilled on it and some of that liquid got onto the power button board causing corrosion and the power button itself to not make contact when pressed. We do the harder fixes too but it’s nice to get easy ones sometimes.
