Foothills Fringe is so excited for this next offering: a Poetry reading by Brett Alan Dewing- "The Wreck of the Deutschland" by Gerard Manley Hopkins! You can catch it for $8 admission on Sunday, September 22nd only at the Foothills Fringe!

A towering masterpiece of sacred poetry, “The Wreck of the Deutschland” finds the poet wrestling with the problem of pain, the strange mercy of God, and the majesty with which Christ bridges the two. It is the true story of a shipwreck in which 5 Franciscan nuns lost their lives off the coast of the UK, but perhaps the highly structured poem is more about the inevitable failure of putting language to the ways of God. The further Hopkins goes down the maze of trying to understand divine mastery and mercy, the more his language splinters even as his spirit takes flight.
