We are saying goodbye to Pedro. He is going to be graduating in a couple weeks and heading straight into the Army.

In the 2.5 years he’s worked here at Valley Lanes, he has never been late and never missed a single day of work. That alone says a lot about his character, but honestly, it only scratches the surface of who he is. Pedro is one of the most amazing young men I’ve ever met… quiet, reserved, humble, and someone I’ve grown to love like family.

Whether it was here at the lanes, on the court, or out on the field, Pedro brought one of the strongest work ethics I’ve ever seen. Regardless of the sport, there wasn’t a single kid who was going to outwork Pedro. He learned how to work on our old A-2 pinsetters, tackled every task I ever asked him to do with a can-do attitude, and never once complained no matter what was thrown his way. He also played a huge role in helping our bowling center achieve USBC Gold Star Certification, something we are incredibly proud of.

He plans to study radiology while serving, and with his work ethic, discipline, and attitude, I have absolutely no doubt he’ll move up the ranks quickly and go on to do incredible things in this world.

Pedro is also Preston’s best friend, and I think I speak for both of us when I say we are going to miss him so so much.

I couldn’t be more proud of you, Pedro. Congratulations on graduating. Your future is incredibly bright. 🇺🇸🎓

*** This also means Valley Lanes will have a rare opening on our staff. If you’re interested in joining our team, please drop off a resume at the lanes or email it to [email protected]. Interviews will begin immediately ***

🚨 Valley Lanes is RE-OPENING today!! 🚨

At approximately 6:00 PM on Tuesday (the one day we’re closed during the week 🙄), a 1.5” copper main line buried about 5.5 feet underground ruptured. Over the next 14 hours, an estimated 475,000 gallons of water flowed through the building.

I teamed up with my ex-father-in-law, who also owns a restoration company, and over the next 3 days we had 11 technicians working around the clock. We ran 50+ pieces of drying equipment utilizing EVERY circuit in the building in order to get things dried out.

Finding someone to take on the plumbing repair wasn’t easy either. Not everyone works on 1.5” lines, and even fewer are willing to break up concrete and dig up a manhole to get to the source. Thankfully, Ogborn Plumbing stepped up and Dave and Jay were onsite within a couple hours and got the job handled.

After 5 days of drying, we were finally able to begin reconstruction. As of reopening today, we’ll have brand new flooring in the kitchen, snack bar, and pool table/dart board room. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be painting and installing new base trim throughout the building. The arcade and bathroom flooring will also be replaced eventually (flooring that was just done 3 years ago).

Unfortunately, my insurance claim was denied due to exclusions in the policy. In short, damage from a ruptured pipe and anything below grade isn’t covered. A $10,000/year policy, and no coverage for water damage. I didn’t even know you could a buy a policy that didn’t include water damage!! 🤯

I’ve decided not to start a GoFundMe, even though so many of you encouraged it. I feel like this is something I need to take on myself. I just want to simply ask you to PLEASE come support the lanes. Bring your family and friends in to bowl. Try out some of our newer game modes like Sniper Bowling, Golf Bowling, or Red Pin Bowling. Hit the arcade and grab a bite to eat. Rumor has it we’ve got one of the best burgers in town. My go-to is the Valley Lanes Special, inspired by the old Dairy Queen Charkel burger.

With your continued support, I truly believe we can have everything fully put back together within the next 6–8 months.

Thank you all for sticking with us through a very difficult time. It means more than you know.

Valley Lanes will be fully closed through Sunday as we continue additional demolition and drying efforts.

We truly appreciate your patience and support during this time. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Valley Lanes will be closed indefinitely due to water damage. It’s BAD! Really bad!! Please say a prayer for us 🙏🏻 1.5” copper pipe broke loose.

Update #1: Just found out my commercial insurance policy doesn’t cover water damage… For my fellow business owners… read your policy carefully and pay special attention to the ‘exclusions’ page. Look for language like this 👉🏻 Exclusions: We will not pay for loss or damage caused by or resulting from: Rupture or bursting of water pipes, other than Automatic Sprinkler Systems (that’s how my policy read). Ask the hard questions. What does it cover? What does it not cover? Don’t assume you’re covered for something simple like water damage. Hard lesson learned.

Update #2: Water has been extracted, demo is complete, and drying equipment is now in place. We’ll be making a decision tomorrow regarding a timeline to reopen.

Update #3 (Thursday 4/16): We’ve located the leak and by the Grace of God, we won’t need to dig up the parking lot. We’re currently waiting on a plumber, and it’s likely we’ll need to overnight parts to complete the repair. In the meantime, we will be partially reopening today, but please be aware there will be tons of dehu’s and fans running throughout the building. Here’s a quick run down of the partial reopening 👇🏻

* The arcade will be fully operational
* A limited number of lanes will be open
* All leagues will continue as scheduled
* The kitchen will remain closed for now
* The pool room will remain closed until permanent repairs have been made

Update #4 (Thursday afternoon 4/16): After several hours of busting up concrete and digging out a manhole, Ogborn Plumbing successfully repaired the leak. Dave and Jay were nothing short of amazing!! We can’t thank them enough for the hard work and hustle today. We’re still in the process of cleaning up, so please be mindful of that when you stop by. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we keep pushing toward getting everything back to normal. Hometown Pizza will be fully operational tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered help… it truly means a lot. One of the things I love most about this community is how people show up and support each other when it matters most.

We’re heartbroken to share the loss of a dear friend, Charles Hall, Jr.

Charles headlined our first annual Valley Lanes Stand Up comedy night. It was an unforgettable night as he performed in front of a sold out crowd. He brought so much laughter and joy into the place. That’s who he was… incredibly talented, quick-witted, and just an amazing human to be around. He had a way of lighting up a room and making people feel good, and I was lucky to know him.

Behind the laughter, though, he was fighting battles not everyone could see. And this is a reminder that you never truly know what someone is carrying. If you’re struggling, please talk to someone. Reach out to a friend, family member, or a professional. You don’t have to go through it alone.

Check in on your people. Be kind. Be present.

We’ll always remember the laughter he gave us and the memories he helped create here at the lanes. He will be deeply missed. ❤️ 🙏🏻
