KANEKO offers layers of discovery; shapes, colors and textures all inviting you to ponder a bit more.
The upstairs hosts the works of Peter Millett and Therman Statom. Both of their displays highlight interesting geometric forms through natural elements, to the delight of aspiring artists and seasoned collectors.
Their pieces also inspired the younger generation as seen in the Arts for Me gallery; the student’s art explodes with vibrancy and joy. If you haven’t already visited, I highly recommend visiting the Kaneko, and find…yourself

The Polina Gardens is an urban oasis abundant with art, life and serenity. Flowers of varying sizes and colors, interesting sculptures and peaceful walkways invite you to relax and take it all in. With plenty of seating, you could easily read a book, have lunch or take a nap in the sun and I was tempted to do all three. The Polina Gardens is an ideal chill spot to observe the world, and reflect 🌸

Finally got a chance to check out the RAKU exhibit at KANEKO and it was magnificent. Jun Kaneko has always been a favorite artist of mine (especially the dumpling sculptures), but these pieces took the appreciation to a whole new level.

Each piece feels like a 3 dimensional portrait of an emotion, a feeling or a memory; I stood before a few, seeing my mood reflected in texture and glaze. I definitely recommend engaging with the pieces on the walls as well; more than just canvas paintings, they’re rich explosions of color, captured on ceramic tile. This exceptional exhibit won’t be displayed much longer, so if you get an opportunity, find yourself among the faces of RAKU

There’s something electric about seeing music live and in person; that shared experience between you, the crowd and the artist is a beautiful thing. Omaha’s had some fantastic events this year, but the ones coming up Labor Day weekend will take things to a whole different level. Sometimes self care looks like visiting your favorite museum, discovering a new favorite piece of art, treating yourself to a great lunch and taking care of your plants 🪴
- if you haven’t been to the Joslyn Art Museum in a while, they have some new pieces displayed; some of them glisten or feature 3D elements
- Le Quartier Bakery & Café is known for their exceptional French pastries, but I highly recommend the food as well. The quiche Lorraine was sumptuous and savory, and the raspberry vinaigrette on the salad was brilliant and well balanced
- there are few joys equal to watching your beloved Crème de Cassis dahlia bloom and grow, special thanks again to Dahlia House for the be-petaled wonder 🌸

It’s been such a pleasure to view the growth and wonder of this beautiful dahlia. The bulb was a mystery color from the stand at Dahlia House and it bloomed into this lovely violet shade; an even better surprise as purple is my favorite color 💜

Many thanks to Dahlia House for fostering growth and beauty in the community, and being a space for both the mind and body can rest
