Playing with directed light, one piece I have been working on forever, I took it down for a while and then put it up at a different angle and it’s given me a new perspective and desire to work on it again. And another piece that’s in the underpainting phase. I’m working on not judging my process as I make things. Make it then make it good as a motto.

Summer mornings mean new watering routine. I’m choosing to see this daily task as not ‘yet another a chore I have to do’ but as a meditative-quiet routine. Because when my brain went “ugh all I do is work” this morning, I told it, okay friend, you chose this, you didn’t have to plant flowers and veggies but some part of you wants to create beauty, and cultivate and connect with nature, so let’s change this narrative. this is a gift to take care of and grow a garden. Be grateful, and if it’s too much, then maybe next time we choose something else. So, yeah, sometimes we have to gentle parent that negative voice in our heads to flip the script. 🪴🫜🌻💦

Daily drawings in my tiny notebook. I seem to find the time to do a 5 min. Quick sketch even on the busiest days. Sometimes all you need is something small to keep the art making going. I keep thinking about Ellsworth Kelly, most known for large scale color field paintings, houses a few smaller contour line drawings of leaves that sort of haunt me. I haven’t seen them in years but I think about them often, why someone whose bold abstracts shifted the art world would continue to make drawings that seem to be very different from his constant art practice. Or wondering what inspired him.
