Say hello to the newest member of the Pottery Plus family...this is Birdie! (short for Bernadette) She DOES have a face but you can only see it at bath time or when she's giving you a side eye! She's a wonderful studio companion and I'm sure she will grace some of our YT videos when we get back to making them. ♥️❤️♥️❤️

I haven't been here in awhile but we are still adding videos to our YT every 2 weeks! The last 4 videos have been a series about how I glazed these planters using iron oxide wash and multiple layers of glaze. The results were very interesting! We learned a lot! Glazes can be so frustrating sometimes so it's nice to get good results.

Our video this week is about how to use sanding tools to smooth out the surface of your unglazed pottery AND how to sand safely. The dust created by sanding clay is not good for you to breathe! So I'll show you some ways to minimize the dust! It's up on our website and YT channel today! ❤️

The best weekends include studio time! We need some small nesting bowls for the Pottery Plus KITCHEN, so I made it my weekend project to get them thrown and trimmed. The tiny one was the most fun to make!

Here is a good example of what's called an "s crack"! It's a common problem to run into when making plates on the wheel. This is the plate I made for our last video in which I mentioned "s cracking" and, after I trimmed it, this showed up! This can happen for different reasons but I think it happened here because I used porcelain to make this and then I let it dry out too quickly. It's been extremely dry around the studio lately! I also could have taken more material out from the outer edge of the foot. This gives me good information about the clay I'm working with so it's not a bad thing, just a learning opportunity!🥰
