The Language of Hope and Courage

The Language of Hope and Courage Will it serve to maintain a sense of strength, worth, and courage? Will it improve the child’s outlook in their battle for life? Thank you for your support!

“The Language of Hope and Courage,” is an interactive installation project which will empower critically ill children as they experience the power of creative expression as part of the healing process. To my friends, family, and community, I cannot express the excitement and honor I have had in sharing the incredible visual stories created by the precious children, their families, and medical team

s at the Children’s Hospital at OU Medicine in Oklahoma City. Join me on Instagram and Facebook as I chronicle my collaborative interactive installation project, “The Language of Hope and Courage,” which will empower critically ill children as they experience the power of creative expression as part of the healing process. Consider the impact and importance the process of creating visual expressions of hope and a healthy identity will have to the inherent well-being of these children and their ability to combat illness. Will it affect their ability to combat disease? The power of this project is the children. There are so many stories to tell. By using a simple creative process of play and self-discovery, symbols will be made that will serve as representations of their identities. Each symbol, otherwise known as an identity glyph, will introduce you to a child, their family members or their medical team. It will tell something about their own personal story; and it will represent a powerful story about the children at the Children’s Hospital. The symbols range in meaning from character traits and tags, emotions, beliefs, aspirations, ideologies, and philosophies, to concepts, tools, and favorite objects. They tell you about the children at The Children’s Hospital by giving you a creative guide to what is important to them, who and what they love, their favorite things and activities, and their hopes and dreams. And finally, my project will culminate in a creative touring installation that weaves together the stories about the unique identities of these precious children, their families and medical teams. The symbolic identities and creative representations will be merged into a life-sized visual story installation about the amazing and indomitable inherent spirit of these children battling illness and disease. Please join me and follow our story of “The Language of Hope and Courage.”
The funds you provide will help pay for a documentary, supplies, and the manpower necessary by a group of individuals who will create a lasting visual arts installation that will tour, and exhibit, the powerful story of critically ill children and the hope this project creates. With your help, this story will continue to grow and empower the arts. To donate to The Language of Hope and Courage, please go the following link: gf.me/u/v5wgn2

Today's post speaks volumes. It was exquisitely hand-torn by one of the Hospital leaders and represents the heart and dedication of the medical teams at The Children's Hospital at OU Medicine.

While the world is isolated, I will be sharing the stories of the precious young children and those who embody the community at The Children's Hospital at OU Medicine. These contemporary identity hieroglyphs are hand torn to tell what they believe is important and represents them in our hospital community collaborations. These children are isolated from normal life on a daily basis; we can do this, too. Check in daily to see new stories.

This project is generously funded by Mid-America Arts Alliance, National Endowment for the Arts, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, The Children's Hospital Volunteers, and individuals like you at go.me/u/v5wgn2
