“I like bubbles in everything. In cold or warm weather, I favor a mug of hot cocoa. I admire cats—their autonomy, grace, and mystery. I awe at the fiery colors in a sunset. I believe in deity. I hear most often with my eyes, and I will trust a facial expression before any accompanying comment. I invent rules, words, adventures, and imaginary friends. I pretend something wonderful every day. I will never quit pretending.”

BOOK SNIPPET OF THE DAY. . .

She sighed at the Viidun’s words and turned her head sideways to look up at Shanks’ wild features—his long hair, strong chin, and large lavender eyes that seemed to stare off in thought.
“Shanks,” she uttered, grabbing his attention. “I’m truly sorry.”
“For what?” he asked, tossing back his lengths of blonde hair with a head jerk.
“It’s my fault your friendship with Derian was compromised. I let my competitiveness get in the way, and it ruined your relationship. I hate that the last time Derian saw you, you were angry with him.”
“What are you talkin’ about, Princess? My friendship with your captain has always been solid as stone.”
“But you left so hastily after our last fight, after he laid into you over the whole thing.”
“Oh yeah.” Shanks grinned at the memory of his unexpected victory. “I would’ve been disappointed in the man had he not stuck up for you the way he did. That was Derian—an honorable brute. I’d’ve expected nothin’ less from him.”
“So you weren’t angry with him?”
“Hell no! For cryin’ in the night, Princess, what kinda nonsense are you thinkin’? I was worried about the two of you! True, Derian lost his temper with me—not typical for him. I’ve seen the man handle far worse, and he always managed to keep his diplomatic cool. But he sure was havin’ a hard time after our last challenge. He was ventin’ like I ain’t never seen him vent. I could tell things were gettin’ too heavy for him to shoulder. So, I left in a hurry hopin’ to bring Pallador back to save you both from them immortal lunatics. I just wish I’d been faster about it."
