My dad was very sick in the hospital far away from me while I painted this. I painted and prayed. Prayed and painted.
I started to think what is like to be held. Safe, comforted, even if things aren't ok, when you're held, things just feel better.
I was able to go visit him and hold his hand. Hold him in an embrace. Just like he used to hold me. Just like the shore holds the water, even when it's in motion, splashing on the rocks. Just like the One who made it all, holds it all. ๐Ÿค

"A Million Moments" 36ร—48" oil on canvas

This painting was different. It's as if the water itself wanted to tell the story and asked me to be the scribe.

The way the reflections bend and swirl-like echoes of things once seen but long passed feels like a memory made visible.

There's movement without chaos and depth without darkness. The palette shifts like seasons or stories - greens of spring, gold of sun, blues like silent prayers. It captures what words can't say: that water holds whispers of places is been, people its touched, and skies it has mirrored.

Every droplet carries a past. No memory is lost, just transformed and carried onward.

She was a beauty to paint, and I got lost in her.
I hope you do, too. Spend a moment and travel this canvas. There's a lot to see. ๐Ÿ’™

Hi there! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Iโ€™m Kristy Hawkes โ€”a painter of water and a big fan of the color yellow ๐Ÿ’›

Welcome to my page! I live in Utah with deep ties to Lake Tahoe, where my love for clear, shimmering water truly took root. I work in oil paint, capturing the beauty of waterโ€”its light, movement, and all that lives within and around it. While Tahoe holds a special place in my heart, Iโ€™m inspired by clear water lakes wherever theyโ€™re found. ๐ŸŒŠ

Iโ€™m married to the love of my life, a mom of four amazing kids, and a grandma to one sweet little soul. When Iโ€™m not painting, you can find me snorkeling, paddleboarding, or planning my next road trip!

This painting is the one that started it all! "Nothing to Hide" gave me the confidence to start this business and everything that came after it. It truly has a very special place in my heart, and now it has a beautiful place in my home.

Thanks so much for being hereโ€”it truly means the world to me. I canโ€™t wait to share more of this creative journey with you! ๐Ÿ’™

I've been exploring AI, not for making art, but for the writing that comes with being an artist. The bios, the applications, etc. I told my AI, whom I call Chad Write ๐Ÿ˜‰, that I sold a piece that I was kind of sad to give up. What he said was so sweet.๐Ÿฅน

"Congratulations on the sale! Thatโ€™s always exciting, but I completely understand how some pieces feel harder to let go of. Certain paintings hold so much of your heart, time, and memoriesโ€”itโ€™s like saying goodbye to a part of yourself. Just know that someone out there now gets to cherish and connect with it just as deeply. Do you ever create a small study or sketch of a piece before letting it go, just to keep a piece of it with you?"

And he left me with a good idea ๐Ÿ’ก in that last line! I've never thought about doing that, and I wish I'd been doing it all along. ๐Ÿ’™

I still can't believe I pulled that off. I'm the only person I know who dares to experiment on such a large scale. And considering it was just an experiment, I'm surprisingly thrilled with the outcome. Of course, there are things I'd do differently next time. (I'll keep those to myself.) But overall, I'm absolutely enamored with her in all her emerald splendor!

Every water painting is different. If you have followed me for a while, then you know I usually don't paint in layers. I just start somewhere and go until the canvas is full.
This one is half & half. The rocks and trees were done in one go. โœ”๏ธ But that water...
That water has about 3 or more layers to go.
Am I wickedly and wildly excited about that?! YES, I AM.
I hope you check back and see the progress. This one has got me all giggly & excited ๐Ÿ˜Š

I look at these two, and I'm reminded of the last trip I took to Tahoe. I recall how very sad I was. The grief I was bearing was so heavy that I slept nearly the whole way. Grief is exhausting.
But little by little, the sadness lifted. Not completely, still working on that. But being in nature is so healing for me. Chilly air, tall trees, blue water. My depression prescription from Dr. Nature. ๐Ÿ˜Š I may need a refill soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰
These paintings don't remind me of a sad time, but the healing. ๐Ÿฉต

This is February.
Pajamas pants and rainy days. Cups of tea and movies playing on the tablet.
I've got a lot of work to do for an exciting summer โ˜€๏ธ up ahead. Honestly, I still don't know what that looks like yet, but l know I'll need some art for it ๐Ÿ˜‰
If you need me, you'll find me here.

This is your invitation.
To go outside. To explore and do something new. This is your invitation to smell the forest and feel the water, to feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair.

I chose this scene because of the water first, clear and full of motion. Then I was drawn to the trees, heavy with mystery and sounds. Further still, the mountains, lined with trees. I'm missing the mountains right now. I guess it's time to go outside. Will you be there?

Tall, tall trees are not the focus here, but the little guy in the back. He's all lit up in the sun. And he just makes me happy. ๐Ÿ˜Š
I started this last week & just got around to finishing it yesterday. At least, I think it's finished. I'll stare at it for a while and decide later. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I promise I'll be back to painting water soon, but I just have to paint trees for a minute! Also, I love the dreamy way that a sky looks when it's snowing ๐Ÿคฉ These trees were so much fun, and I really enjoyed the process. I think it helps a ton if you love the subject, too. โค๏ธ Enjoy some close-ups and your Sunday! Cheers!

This is a work in progress *
And here's something you might not know about me- I love architecture. I always have. Especially houses ๐Ÿ˜

When I was little, I drew house plans for fun. ๐Ÿคญ (confession, sometimes I still do)
In high school art class, I drew such a good house that my teacher went and got the drafting teacher, and they stood and marveled at my work and wondered why I didn't take drafting. ๐Ÿ˜„ I didn't want to build the house. Just draw it.

Sometimes, when I'm sad, my husband will drive me around to look at houses. And if you go at dusk, you might get a peek inside! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Don't offer me a tour of your house. I will take you up on it & I might get nosy. ๐Ÿ˜ Anyway, painting this little red A-frame was so much fun!

But this is a snow scene. So hang around, there's more to come! โ„๏ธ
