The Matrescence Project is seeking a handful of artists, performers, actors, writers, and anyone interested in exploring their journey in and through motherhood: Matrescence. Whether you are a mother or not, an artist or not, all are invited and welcome to come learn more about the project and create a meaningful experience together in an open casting session with . 🪷THE MATRESCENCE PROJECT🪷

WE ARE SEEKING local artists, dancers, writers, movers, and all creative people to explore the journey with and through motherhood: Matrescence. Interested participants will engage with the project research, phrases and prompts of movement, writing, improvisation, and more. From seasoned dance artists to people who are completely new to the performing arts world, we want to work with those who care about the story of this project and share theirs as well.

ALL are welcome and invited.

TOGETHER, the project will culminate a summer-long residency creating a new work with a Work-In-Process preview, then build toward a full premiere in Fall 2026.

INTRODUCING | THE MATRESCENCE PROJECT

MOJO CO.LAB’s first FULL creative and choreographic collaboration with local Cleveland-native, _eberhart Olivia Eberhart!

THIS MARCH, we return to the studio inviting you on a new journey. This journey and exploration is profound, transformative, and is a lifelong, bittersweet odyssey of radical change. I am thrilled to introduce this project with all of my vulnerabilities I carry surrounding this topic and am honored to explore the journey of matrescence with Olivia.

While we may be quiet, we’ve been deep in exploration, research, and preparation for a soon to be announced collaboration — designing the next journey of MoJo Co.Lab’s most ambitious project to date!

We will be announcing this new project THIS WEEK so STAY TUNED. This extraordinary world we will be diving into will include 9 creative open FREE movement workshops, casting workshops, and a developmental residency which we plan to present as an exclusive Work-In-Process preview performance for an invited audience in fall 2026. ✨

We asked Emilyann, What has your experience been like returning to this work and reimagining it to be performed for CDF 2025?

“Returning to ‘Where I End and You Begin’ for CDF 2025 has been an enlightening and redemptive journey. With a year’s worth of growth and shifting perspectives, the work has taken on new layers of meaning—emotionally and physically. What once felt like an exploration of boundaries now feels more like a conversation between them. Revisiting it has allowed me to surrender to transformation, letting the piece breathe differently and uncover a newfound sense of vulnerability.”

To be embraced by the original cast and have the opportunity to be fully immersed in the reimagining of this work has been an incredibly rewarding experience that has nourished and informed my artistry. We asked Jade, What has your experience been like returning to this work and reimagining it to be performed for CDF 2025?

“Coming back to this piece has been emotional in ways I didn’t expect. It’s brought back old emotions, stirred up new ones, and uncovered feelings that have been quietly growing since I last performed it. Some moments in the piece have gone untouched, while others have evolved, just like us. What makes this all so special to me is the shared vulnerability within it and how each of us brings our own stories, feelings, memories, and pain, yet we move together to create a safe space to feel all the emotions we usually hide. It’s a reflection of who we’ve become and the space we continue to hold for one another. It’s raw, honest, and healing in its own way.” —Jade

“The process of rebuilding this piece has been natural, beautiful, hard, a collective reflection, an introspection, a resignation, an invigoration. My voice feels softer and grittier. Our group feels stronger. I’m excited to re-tell our evolved our stories to the CDF audience.“ —Sam

This Saturday see returning cast member, Trinity, along with the cast of ‘Where I End and You Begin’ at Cleveland Dance Festival (The Movement Project / Playhouse Square).

We asked Trinity, What has your experience been like returning to this work and reimagining it to be performed for CDF 2025?

“In some ways, it feels like just yesterday that we first performed this piece, and at the same time, so much has happened in the past year. I don’t know where I begin. I suppose that it has been an ongoing process of self-understanding; identifying all of the ways in which I fit into our collective whole…because we are all in different places than we were a year ago.

I very much enjoyed getting to revisit my solo within the sixth section of the piece. A telling moment for me as to just how much this piece has evolved with time.

At times, it is a longing for the past version, or perhaps a past version of myself, or maybe the fear of the passage of time and the changes that come with it. But ultimately, the question of how to maintain the thread from the story we told a year ago to the one we are telling now.

I am excited for audiences to experience this piece in a different way than how the audience a year ago in Detroit experienced it. Bringing this piece to a stage setting, gives it a sort of sanctuary, one where I hope you can find yourself vulnerable to feel with us.”
