A stop at Portrait of a Phenomenal Woman added a meaningful chapter to the night. Honoring Maya Angelou—a woman of many firsts—the monument celebrates a life that broke barriers and continues to inspire generations. As San Francisco’s first public artwork dedicated to a Black woman, Lava Thomas’s sculpture reminds us that resilience, representation, and powerful words can shape a city just as they shape our lives.

I had an incredible time performing at the ‘In Da Cut Poetry’. There’s nothing like the energy of a community coming together to honor freedom through words. Huge thanks to and all of the poets for sharing the stage.

I am Alexis Monique of AM Poetry Productions. This page was created as a platform to share my poetry, step into my purpose, and exercise my authentic voice.
