Fusion - grrrrrrl Leigh Rondon Davis is doing things -exciting things!!! Great news Leigh, so proud of you!!!
A message from Leigh Rondon-Davis, a vital member of the Shotgun Players company and staff:
If you’ve been to a Shotgun show in the last 5 years, you’ve probably seen me around the Ashby Stage—from Front of House to post-show facilitation, even performing in some of our readings and productions—Shotgun has been one of my artistic homes since I left Wellesley College in 2013, returned home to the Bay, and enrolled in Laney College’s Fusion Theatre Project.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to try anything I dreamed of as a member of this organization—expanding the Make A Difference program with a formalized M.A.D. Fellowship Program and our hugely popular M.A.D. pizza (& beer!) Night performances, stage managing and then coordinating our Champagne Staged Reading Series with Michelle Talgarow, pitching plays that have gone on to CSRS or main stage like 'The Niceties,' 'good friday,' 'and Kill Move Paradise,' participating in new initiatives and helping to create new systems and processes that makes our organization more inclusive and accessible for audiences and artists alike, and, most excitingly, making my Shotgun directing debut (and also first virtual directing gig!) with 'The Niceties' in July.
Additionally, this year, I’m thrilled to share that I was one of four artists awarded Theatre Bay Area’s Director’s Residency through the generous support of The National Endowment for the Arts. I will spend the next year in residence at Shotgun working 1-on-1 with our Artistic Director Patrick Dooley to learn more about running a mid-size regional theatre company, learning the internal processes of managing a non-profit organization from our Managing Director Liz Lisle, and helping shift and revamp our casting and hiring processes alongside Company Members and Director of Production Hanah Zahner-Isenberg. It is such an honor to receive this incredible grant to deepen my work and learning at Shotgun Players.
Be sure to stay tuned for updates on my work as part of the residency and some really exciting projects coming down the road! (Photo: Jesse Sutterley, courtesy of The Forum Collective)
