Fusion - grrrrrrl Leigh Rondon Davis is doing things -exciting things!!! Great news Leigh, so proud of you!!!

A message from Leigh Rondon-Davis, a vital member of the Shotgun Players company and staff:

If you’ve been to a Shotgun show in the last 5 years, you’ve probably seen me around the Ashby Stage—from Front of House to post-show facilitation, even performing in some of our readings and productions—Shotgun has been one of my artistic homes since I left Wellesley College in 2013, returned home to the Bay, and enrolled in Laney College’s Fusion Theatre Project.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to try anything I dreamed of as a member of this organization—expanding the Make A Difference program with a formalized M.A.D. Fellowship Program and our hugely popular M.A.D. pizza (& beer!) Night performances, stage managing and then coordinating our Champagne Staged Reading Series with Michelle Talgarow, pitching plays that have gone on to CSRS or main stage like 'The Niceties,' 'good friday,' 'and Kill Move Paradise,' participating in new initiatives and helping to create new systems and processes that makes our organization more inclusive and accessible for audiences and artists alike, and, most excitingly, making my Shotgun directing debut (and also first virtual directing gig!) with 'The Niceties' in July.

Additionally, this year, I’m thrilled to share that I was one of four artists awarded Theatre Bay Area’s Director’s Residency through the generous support of The National Endowment for the Arts. I will spend the next year in residence at Shotgun working 1-on-1 with our Artistic Director Patrick Dooley to learn more about running a mid-size regional theatre company, learning the internal processes of managing a non-profit organization from our Managing Director Liz Lisle, and helping shift and revamp our casting and hiring processes alongside Company Members and Director of Production Hanah Zahner-Isenberg. It is such an honor to receive this incredible grant to deepen my work and learning at Shotgun Players.

Be sure to stay tuned for updates on my work as part of the residency and some really exciting projects coming down the road! (Photo: Jesse Sutterley, courtesy of The Forum Collective)

So-so-so proud to announce that Fusion-Gai Jacob has accepted the full ride scholarship to San Francisco State University’s esteemed Theatre Arts program!! Yep Full ride!!! Yep - same actor who received a USC tuition scholarship!! Such INCREDIBLE choices!!! Obviously we’re proud of and excited to follow Jacobs successes as he moves forward. The Fusion Theatre Project is a project of the Laney College Theatre Arts Dept. The Free Ride scholarship is exclusive to Laney Theatre Arts. Our Fall program which will be online due to Covid: Intro To Theatre, Script Analysis, Acting 1&2 ( Acting on Zoom). Jacob first blew us away in acting class with his monologue and scene work. Hi everyone,
We are training our peer tutors to be ready to provide support for students in learning how to get started with Canvas and Zoom, and we’d like you to let students know about some drop-in training sessions we are offering tomorrow, Friday, over Zoom.
Tutors will be shadowing our tech support experts Michel Edibe-Bile and Lewis Thrower as they help your students learn the basics of Zoom and Canvas.
Friday, March 27, 2020 (10 -12 PM and 2-4 PM) “Zoom and Canvas Basics” (Virtual Drop-In).

To sign up for an appointment, fill out this form: Tutoring Center Sign-up

Students can also make an appointment and get help by calling or texting this number: (510) 463-4412

I know this is late notice, so we will be in touch about more sessions for next week once we have worked out the schedule with tutors and figured out how to avoid “zoom-bombing” incidents like the one we had today.

We’re all working to figure this out together, so please feel free to direct any questions or ideas to me or to Lewis Thrower, ([email protected]), the Instructional Assistant for the Student Success Center.

Thanks!
Ian Latta

Couple of nights ago we saw Christina Anderson’s INKED BABY at CROWDED FIRE and were quite taken by it. For some of us the storytelling left us fascinated yet baffled and for some it validated past events in our country. This kind of validation is so important to witness and perhaps begin a healing process. Check it out and let us know what you think.

So proud of Leigh Rondon-Davis and Kenny S
Who starred in this very important and relevant piece!!

09/21/2019

Its always a good idea to tell how former students are making their way in Bay Area theater. Original Ace-Deuce Kristoffer’s hard work is getting recognized more broadly now!!! He’s still with T1; events manager, resident sound designer, and resident stage manager.
To add, he’s just scored his first instructor gig with Brava Theater, teaching sound design to their San Francisco Running Crew students this fall and spring.
The Flick over at Shotgun is doing well and he’s getting mentions in almost all the reviews for sound and projections.
And he was just nominated for outstanding sound design in a play for Cinnabar Theater's The Great God Pan by the Marquee Theater Journalists Association. His first nomination!! What’s really cool is that Kris composed all the transition music for that show!!
Fusion is so proud of our original ace deuce!!! Persistence, a desire to learn and the drive - that’s what it’s all about!!! You go Fusion-Gai!!
