Thanks to the Denton ISD Board of Trustees for recognizing our outstanding Fine Arts programs, teachers, and students at tonight’s board meeting. They recognized that our district has been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education by NAMM for the 20th year. They also recognized Guyer Theatre student, Aly Delloro, for receiving the Broadway Dallas HS Musical Award for Best Supporting Actor for her performance as young Elsa in Frozen. Congratulations to Aly, to Guyer Theatre Directors, Eleshia and Chris Crotwell, and to all our music teachers and directors for their incredible achievements! 👏👏👏

Denton ISD Fine Arts welcomes Braswell High School Percussion Director Mr. Jesus Martinez!

Mr. Martinez is a music educator, percussion specialist, composer, and arts leader with more than a decade of experience serving students across North Texas. Most recently, he served as Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie ISD, where his students and ensembles earned national recognition, including designation as a Mark of Excellence National Percussion Ensemble Honors National Winner (2025), an invitation for the South Grand Prairie Wind Ensemble to perform at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference(2025), and an invitation for the South Grand Prairie Percussion Ensemble to perform at the 2024 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) after earning Second Place in the International Percussion Ensemble Competition (IPEC). A four-time Quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Museum, Martinez is dedicated to advancing music education through excellence, innovation, and student-centered learning. Beyond the classroom, he is an active composer whose music is published by C. Alan Publications and Murphy Music Press. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a Professional Member of The Recording Academy(©The GRAMMY’s), and a Vic Firth Educational Artist. Known for fostering creativity, leadership, and artistic achievement, Martinez is committed to empowering young musicians to reach their fullest potential both on and off the stage.

🎶Middle School Summer Band Camp took place this week June 1-4th at Ryan High School! Over 100 students that completed 6, 7, & 8th grade from across the district came together to form two ensembles performing a concert after only a few days together. The intermediate band was conducted by Navo’s Band Director, Brooke Irby, and the advanced band was led by DHS Band Director, Lance Walker. The camp was supported by several middle and high school band directors and organized by Band Directors, Sandy Osborne and Dr. Kelly Desjardins. Outstanding work by all of the band directors supporting student growth headed into next school year!

Denton ISD is searching for a Director of Orchestras for Harpool Middle School. A bachelor's degree in music (instrumental music concentration) and Texas certification are required. Master's degree and secondary orchestra teaching experience are preferred. This is a salaried, full-time teaching position that includes insurance benefits and a $7,000 stipend. Responsibilities include teaching Harpool orchestra classes for students in grades 6-8, orchestra and campus duties before and after school as assigned, and various administrative responsibilities involved with managing the orchestra program. Harpool MS has a comprehensive CC orchestra program that performs at a very high level in UIL and TMEA Region 2 events. Harpool MS is located in the southern sector of Denton ISD in the Guyer HS attendance zone. Harpool has an excellent campus fine arts department and an outstanding team of orchestra directors in the Guyer HS cluster. Denton ISD is on the north side of the DFW Metroplex and is one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas. Denton ISD is well-known for its outstanding fine arts programs and has incredible community support for them. Denton ISD is searching for a head Theatre Director for Harpool Middle School. A bachelor's degree in theatre with and Texas secondary theatre teaching certification are required. Theatre teaching experience is preferred. This is a full-time teaching position that includes insurance benefits and a $4,000 stipend. Responsibilities include teaching Theatre 1-3 and various administrative, production, and directing responsibilities as required. Each Denton ISD middle school has theatre classes daily during the school day and opportunities for before and after school activities. Harpool MS has an outstanding theatre program that has experienced success in UIL Middle School One Act Play and Theatrical Design Contest. Harpool is a middle school in Denton ISD, locate in the Guyer HS attendance zone in the southern sector of the district. Denton ISD is on the north side of the DFW Metroplex and is experiencing continuous growth. Denton ISD Fine Arts welcomes Martinez Elementary Music Teacher Mr. Caiden Reisinger!

Mr. Reisinger is a recent graduate from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor in Music Education degree. He is beyond thrilled to join Denton ISD's Fine Arts team as the Music Specialist at Martinez Elementary School this upcoming school year! Mr. Reisinger most recently completed his clincial student teaching in elementary music in a neighboring district. During his time at UNT, he was a part of multiple ensembles and served in several choral leadership positions. Mr. Reisinger was also a part of the All-State Tenor Bass Choir as a student.

Denton ISD Fine Arts welcomes Calhoun Middle School Band Director Ms. Sandy Osborne!

Ms. Osborne is thrilled to join Calhoun Middle School as the Head Band Director! She has been the Assistant Director at Rodriguez MS for the last eight years. She also serves as one of the Denton ISD Summer Band Camp Coordinators. Prior to joining Denton ISD, Ms. Osborne has an additional eight years as a middle school band director. She attended Sam Houston State University recieving a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education as a woodwind specialist. Mrs. Osborne's ready to bring her energy, creativity, and plenty of music-making fun to Calhoun! She’s excited to build on Calhoun’s tradition of excellence while creating meaningful connections with the students and community alike.

Denton ISD Fine Arts welcomes Eugenia Porter Rayzor Elementary Music Teacher Ms. Christina Soukis!

Ms. Soukis is excited to be joining the Fine Arts team at EP Rayzor Elementary. She graduated from the University of North Texas in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Most recently, she served as the PK-5 music teacher at Corinth Elementary School in Corinth, Texas, where she was named Teacher of the Year. Ms. Soukis established several school-wide initiatives, including innovative ensembles and annual performance opportunities for all students. In collaboration with her colleagues, Ms. Soukis directed an award-winning, all-district choir. She is looking forward to bringing the joy of music to all students at EP Rayzor!
