Norton Singers is excited to announce the stellar cast assembled for its October production of This Is Your Song: The Elton John Songbook! Last year we celebrated 80 years, this year we are outdoing ourselves with more than 80 performers! How can we hold all this talent on one stage?

The show will be held at the Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center once again and celebrates more than five decades of great music and stories from music superstar Elton John and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. We also will have some tasty surprises, including our special guest stars, The Unlikely Strummers! What a great collaboration this is going to be.

This show is packed with songs, stories, dance, more ukuleles than you can shake a fist at, and more than 30 stone cold Elton John classics. And, did we mention more than 80 performers and a top notch five-piece band, led by award-winning pianist Lisa Yves and featuring everyone’s favorite drummer, Janelle Roussel? Directed by Ted Mitchell with music direction by Lisa Yves, this is one Captain Fantastic evening you'll never forget! Sad songs really do say so much.

See you in October and get your tickets here: https://mrpac.art/tickets

ABOUT THE SHOW: Norton Singers will be holding its annual fall r***e at the Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center, with a special show highlighting music from the Elton John Songbook and more than five decades of great music and stories. We have some fun surprises planned, too.

The show shines a spotlight on the stories told and incredible music crafted by Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, the man responsible for Elton’s greatest successes from the beginning. It's going to be a lot of fun, with the fabulous award-winning artist Lisa Yves behind the piano. From the early days and a rocket to fame with eight consecutive number one albums, to the later years and learning to accept who they are and the bridge they wish to build, this r***e will tell the life story of two musical geniuses through their words and music.

Planned to be included are songs spanning the complete Songbook: Skyline Pigeon, Border Song, Levon, Daniel, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Bennie and the Jets, Don't Go Break My Heart, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word, Someone Saved My Life Today, Empty Garden, I'm Still Standing, Sad Songs Say So Much, I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues, The Last Song, The Bridge, Cold Heart and of course, Your Song. In other words, something for everyone.

This Is Your Song is scheduled to be performed October 2 and 3, 2026, with a Saturday matinee at Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center. This production will be directed by Ted Mitchell, with music direction by Lisa Yves. Ted and Lisa are seeking a large, diverse cast, and welcome performers of all ethnicities, body types, and gender expressions to audition and help interpret the stories behind these songs.

Please note this is strictly a non-union production. No AEA contracts will be offered.

TO PREPARE: Auditionees should prepare 32 bars of music, preferably an Elton John song. Please bring a headshot and resume or list of previous experience to the audition. Accompaniment will be provided. Video auditions are accepted.

Auditionees will be notified of all casting decisions by email. The first rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, September 1 in the Social Room in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Rehearsals typically will be held on Sunday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Participants will NOT be required to attend every single rehearsal, although anyone who signs up to audition should be prepared to give all conflicts to the production team at the time of the auditions. We want this to be an easy and fun show.

FINAL NOTICE: The Norton Singers Playreading Committee will be meeting ***this Monday*** to review director interest and after that, schedule 1:1 conversations for later in the month.

We are seeking talented directors and music directors who might be interested in partnering with the group to bring their vision to life at the beautiful Weber Theater at Wheaton College for June 2027. We are also interested in smaller showcase productions to be held throughout the remainder of the year, which could include original works or musical reviews. To begin the conversation, we need to know your interest, what you are interested in doing, and information on your directing background.

If you haven't done so already and wish to be considered, please contact artistic director Ted Mitchell at [email protected].

Thanks to the Sun Chronicle for the nice article on the 15 EMACT DASH nominations Norton Singers received for its production of Hunchback of Notre Dame, including for Direction, Ensemble, three of its lead performers, and Best Musical overall. And, of course, the Critic's Choice award to Lisa Yves and Yochi Avin for excellence in production for Painting Life in Pictures.

With the summer in full swing, Norton Singers is in planning mode, and as a reminder: we would love your assistance in making our next season a big success. Although we have big shoes to fill in the new season, we plan to try!

--First off, there are only about two weeks left before auditions for our annual fall r***e takes place, which this year is a special show highlighting music from the Elton John Songbook, shining a spotlight on the stories told and incredible music crafted by Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, the man responsible for Elton’s greatest successes from the beginning.

It's going to be a lot of fun, with the fabulous award-winning artist Lisa Yves behind the piano, in crazy glasses. Auditions are being held on Monday and Tuesday, August 17 and 18 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The first evening is completely filled, so to sign up for a five-minute audition slot for Tuesday, go here:

--Also, we are looking for talented directors and music directors who might be interested in partnering with the group to bring their vision to life at the beautiful Weber Theater at Wheaton College. The playreading committee plans to meet to review submissions on August 10 and will be scheduling conversations later in the month. For those interested in being considered, please contact artistic director Ted Mitchell at [email protected].

--On the board of Directors front, we are looking for someone to help oversee our Membership Committee, which would involve the recruitment of new members and reconnecting with old friends. Please let us know if you have any interest by sending an email to [email protected].

--And finally, we want to hear from you! One of the questions we often get from potential directors is, what musicals would your base be interested in seeing? We thank everyone who filled out our questionnaire after Hunchback asking this very question but would welcome additional feedback. Please let us know what you would like to see for our June 2027 production. Your feedback is appreciated!

Thank you and we hope everyone is having a great summer!
