Presto-O, change-O: Mixwell’s is now Mixie’s Northside!

Located at 3935 Spring Grove Ave., Mixie’s features Cincinnati’s best local DJs, dancing and live bands. Over the last year, the owners and staff have been working hard to cultivate an environment that welcomes all.

Turn your 4th of July plans all the way up at the Northside Rock 'N Roll Carnival, a 2-day celebration that kicks off Friday night and keeps going strong after the iconic on Saturday. As the parade wraps, the dance party rolls straight into Hoffner Park!

Marking our 20th anniversary, this year features a packed concert schedule with dozens of live performances across multiple days, alongside a curated mix of food vendors, local makers, and refreshing drinks.

The music-driven lineup reflects the eclectic, independent spirit that defines Northside, while the vendor marketplace and festival offerings create a dynamic, family-friendly gathering space unique to Northside.

Whether you start your holiday weekend with us at the park on Friday or make your way down after the parade to continue the celebrations, the Northside Rock N’ Roll Carnival invites you to be part of a beloved community tradition 20 years strong and still rocking.

Special thanks to awesome neighborhood business N.Y.P.D. Pizza Inc. (Northside), which has been promoting the Northside Rock N’ Roll Carnival (and this weekend’s WestFest in Cheviot!) on its boxes for over a month now.

The business recently phased out styrofoam takeout packaging in favor of cardboard, and switched from printed wax paper to recyclable aluminum foil sheets as part of its ongoing commitment to more sustainable packaging. We appreciate this!

N.Y.P.D. Pizza has been serving Cincinnati since 1987! This popular pizzeria has four locations, including Cheviot, Colerain and Delhi, but we’re partial to 1566 Chase Ave. right here in Northside.

NEST - Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation, with the support of the City Of Cincinnati Government, Cincinnati Neighborhood Business Districts United (CNBDU), Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Foundation, and 5/3 Bank, has been working to improve the exteriors of select businesses in Northside!

NEST’s REFRESH program provided funds and technical support, courtesy of Chroma Architecture, to local businesses to beautify exteriors, enhance visibility and/or improve building conditions and safety.

Located at 4100 Hamilton Ave. in the Gantry Apartments’ ground level, Melt Revival is a restaurant whose outdoor patio just got an upgrade, thanks to REFRESH! Area carpenter Mike DeMaria built a pergola with a custom retractable canopy system to provide shade or sun to diners. It looks awesome!

Melt Revival’s menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients, like hyper local Ceres Bagels and fresh greens grown by the Heart of Northside. Dishes are made from scratch, and the range of options includes meaty, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free, with a full suite of beverages to satisfy your thirst.

According to a recent customer, “What really sets Melt Revival apart is the quality of ingredients. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The portions are generous, making it a great value for the price. The staff is also very knowledgeable about vegan options and are more than happy to accommodate dietary preferences.”

During warm weather, the sidewalk patio is a great spot for people-watching!

PAR-Projects is kicking off celebrations for Juneteenth in Cincinnati with its 3rd annual Juneteenth Eve party on Hoffner St.! Stop by 6-10pm on Thu 18 Jun for a cookout and take one last look at Materials Reclaimed, an exhibition featuring the works of SLiNK Love and Sarah Rodriguez.

PAR-Projects is an artist-led organization with a mission to empower diverse communities of people who believe in the arts. As educators, they provide workshops and classes related to career development and skills training. As working artists, they enjoy hosting thought provoking exhibitions and large-scale collaborations throughout Greater Cincinnati.

PAR-Projects is currently in the midst of a major community development project that is transforming 3/4 of an acre of blighted land into a contemporary arts and education center. Within their campus they currently host a fine art gallery and a number of creativity-focused artist studios.

As development continues, they will open an outdoor performance stage and outdoor movie theater, truly designed as a place to gather.

What is Juneteenth? On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free by executive decree. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the US and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.

This commemoration of African American freedom has been a Federal holiday since 2021. It is celebrated on 19 Jun every year.

Haile, Jr. Foundation, and 5/3 Bank, NEST - Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation has been improving the exteriors of select businesses in Northside!

NEST’s REFRESH program provided funds and technical support to local businesses to beautify exteriors, enhance visibility and/or improve building conditions and safety.

Located at 4222 Hamilton Ave., the Heart of Northside received new exterior signs. Special thanks to architect Chroma Architecture, fabricator Crux Roadboardz and graphic designer Maya Drozdz of Your Friends & Neighbors for their assistance in bringing this effort to life! The new signage clarifies entrance points, driveway and parking, making life easier for visitors (and our neighbors!).

REFRESH also supported removal of an unused pergola, creating more space for a street-facing pollinator garden on this busy stretch of Hamilton Ave.

Northside neighbor and Board-certified cardiologist Dr. Florence Rothenberg purchased the former North Presbyterian Church in order to turn it into a community health center with the goals of improving access to fresh produce by growing it on site, improving health literacy through classes and individual counseling, and improving community health through listening and outreach.

The facility, renamed the Heart of Northside, also strengthens the community by offering low-cost rental space for events such as the semiannual Northside Record Fair, lectures, music performances, and AA and NA meetings. It is available for private event rentals as well.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Rune Juicery + Plant-Based Market! This new business officially opens today at 9am at 1609 Chase Ave. Woot!

Rune was founded in Mariemont, making this the second location for owner Caleb Cornelius, who grew up on Cherry St. in Northside.

The business specializes in superfoods, juices, smoothies, herbal teas, and plant-based bites with an all-vegan menu that offers many gluten-free options and only uses natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup.

To start, Rune will be open 9am-9pm 7 days/week, so stop by for a cold-pressed juice, wellness shot or healthy fare!

Shown here is Rune’s signature açaí bowl, a great way to start the day! Did you know that açaí is a superfood powerhouse? With its antioxidant power it fights free radicals which protect cells from damage. It’s also great for your heart, brain, and immune system!

The açaí bowl is made with açaí, strawberry, blueberry, coconut mylk, maple syrup, lucuma, banana, kiwi, coconut flakes, gluten-free granola, and almond butter. Yum!

North Side Bank & Trust was founded in 1888 and has been headquartered in this building at 4125 Hamilton Ave. since 1903! It offers a full suite of financial products for individuals and businesses.

As a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, North Side Bank & Trust offers Welcome Home grants worth up to $20,000 to assist with the buyer’s down payment closing costs. Applicant may also be eligible for the American Dream Down Payment Initiative. These programs are designed to help low- to moderate income buyers achieve home ownership.

Another little-known financial product offered by North Side Bank & Trust is the credit-builder loan.

Why is it important to have a good credit score? Building or improving your credit score can be helpful in securing a car loan, rental apartment lease or a mortgage. The credit-builder loan is a helpful tool in this regard, and it’s offered by many community banks and credit unions, including our neighbor, the North Side Bank & Trust.

A credit-builder loan is different from a traditional loan in that you don’t get immediate access to the money you borrow. Instead, your lender sets aside the money in a savings account or a certificate of deposit, and you make a monthly on-time payment that’s reported to the credit bureaus. At the end of the loan term, which may be 6-24 months, you get access to the money plus any interest.

This can be a great way to help you build or rebuild your credit. Best of all, it actually forces you to save a lump sum of money, making it a more generally beneficial tool than an option like a secured credit card.

Last week Deloitte employees devoted their Impact Day to beautifying our own Wesleyan Cemetery!

Volunteers cleared weeds and debris, opened overgrown sidewalks and made a significant impact on this historic landmark. From clearing weeds and debris to opening overgrown sidewalks, their team made a real impact.

Founded in the mid-1800s, the cemetery remains an important part of the Northside community, and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is proud to support its ongoing care alongside the City of Cincinnati. Thank you, Deloitte, for your continued commitment to helping Keep Cincinnati Beautiful.

Incorporated in 1843, Wesleyan Cemetery is the oldest continuously operating cemetery in Hamilton County and the first in Cincinnati designed in a park-like fashion. It was also the first in the city to keep and maintain records of its burials and grounds, which it has done since its founding.

Wesleyan was also the first racially integrated cemetery in the Greater Cincinnati area and has important ties to the Underground Railroad and Cincinnati’s abolitionist movement. In 2014, the National Park Service formally named it an Landmark.

In addition, veterans of every United States war are interred at this cemetery.

Tri-State Brick & Block Masonry LLC worked their magic on the Cincinnati Bartending School building. Undergoing some masonry repairs and tuckpointing, as well as graffiti removal, this historic structure received some major TLC and now looks better than ever!

Cincinnati Bartending has been in the Cincinnati area for over 30 years and has a reputation for training the best professional bartenders in the business!

The school offers affordable tuition and nationwide job placement assistance. Its Professional Mixology course is a 40-hour course which consists of ten 4-hour bartending classes, which can be completed over a one-, two- or five-week period.

New bartending classes start each week. Offerings include days, evenings, weekends, and a flexible schedule (any combination of day, evening or weekend classes to fulfill the requirements). By the time students graduate, they will have learned how to mix and serve over 125 cocktails!

The Cincinnati Bartending School is located at 4141 Hamilton Ave. in the historic Park Telephone Exchange building, which was built in 1903 when telephone service was a luxury.
