Today I had the pleasure of recording on someone’s original jazz ballad. I decided to change it up this time and try recording with two mics and combining them in post for a different sound. The BLUE Kiwi mic gave it some punch and sizzle while the AEA R92 gave it some silkiness and body. I also experimented with impedances, filters, and off axis set ups as well. Think I like this technique. 🎺

20 years late 😂! In the early 2000s I worked on two albums with Ziggy Marley (thank you Dave Ralicke). The first one was “Dragon Fly” and the second was “Love is my Religion”. I didn’t realize that the latter won Best Reggae Album at the 49th Grammy Awards in 2006. At the time, I was jumping from a year long world tour with Green Day to playing and touring with The Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. 20 years later I’m reflecting and acknowledging some of the work I have done over the years. So I’m finally putting my next trophy on the wall! 🎺 😃 Ziggy Marley

I love all styles of music. I discovered a DJ on YouTube that I really like named Darius. All of his music has great production and groove. This one had the perfect vibe to add some Michael Jackson/Jerry Hey style horns so I came up with some and added them to the track. Here is a little sample 🎺 .music

Great weekend performing for the Heritage festival in historic downtown Los Angeles. Gabriel Gonzalez thank you for bringing EQUINOX to perform. We had a blast! Also a blast as always playing with the great Poncho Sanchez on the main stage! Was also a treat to have my family out there cheering me on. On my birthday I wanted to post something I worked on last year. Always loved this song. The melody is so delicate and haunting. So I decided to do it as an instrumental hoping to capture the beautiful energy of Karol G’s pure melodic phrasing. I had to do some chopping of the original track and had to creatively add some keyboards to get close to the vibe of the song. I did this last year as a birthday present for my wife Raquel.
