I've been in a creative hibernation for a while; reassessing the type of art I want to make while reexamining my artistic voice. I think I'm on the right track so it's time to share some of what I've been working on.
Heirloom, 2026
Acrylic, 24"x24"
An excerpt from my 2026 artist statement:
"In the painting, Heirlooms, a canine statuette appears as a metaphor for turbulent family relationships and generational shame. Known as Staffordshire Dogs, these figurines were originally manufactured in pairs and became aspirational symbols for the Victorian middle class. Alone and separated from its original counterpart, this precariously set figure weighs on the mind in this loosely interpreted self portrait. Gold stars glittering across the cheeks cling hopefully to the most vibrant parts of the self. Clouds of hydrangea blooms support the dream from the background."
I'm really proud of this one and also SO nervous to share it. But still let me know what you think?
