Good evening friends!
I don't think we could have asked for a more beautiful Sunday to end this fun weekend watching the Masters after a great 2 day contest at Loafers Beach Club! CSA can't say thank you enough to Gary and Deborah Gibson, Jessica behind the bar, and all the volunteers who helped make this event great! They provided food each night for the dancers, sponsors and judges and I believe the cookie trays were endless because they just kept coming 🙂
Friday night we started off the contest with the Amateur division followed by a FUN mixed doubles. Gary Gibson was the DJ for the night. We had 6 Amatuer couples dance. Brenda Wright danced with Jack Bond and it was her first CSA contest! Jack, always smiling, put on a great show with Brenda and we can't wait to see them back on the floor! April and John Brooks came out with the win, congratulations!
The mixed doubles is always a highlight of a contest weekend. We had 16 couples sign up. The music selections were perfect and the dancers put on a great show for the crowd. Most of these couples had never danced together before and some had never met, but they all boogied down and had a great time! Here are the top three couples and be on the lookout for pictures on facebook of all the winners soon!
1st place: Kevin Payne and Sandra Boswell
2nd place: Gene Pope and Doro Taylor
3rd place: Chad Duggins and Jennifer Payne
Saturday afternoon brought a BIG crowd! 11 novice couples took the floor with the crowd cheering on each and every one of them. This division is tough and referred to as the "blood and guts" of CSA. These dancers practice hard to perfect their craft and put lots of hours into improving their dance. Last night Jason and Merinda Swaim got their first novice win and the crowd cheered loud to congratulate them on a job well done!
Senior Pro had 6 couples. Loafers is a special place for some of these senior pros who have been dancing at Loafers over the past 38 years in all the different venues it have been at. The emotions were felt on the floor and they all brought their A game! Congrats to Gene Pope and Tobitha Stewart on your win!
Pro division rounded out the night with 5 couples. This division is always fun to watch. Music selections were a crowd favorite and it was a great way to end the night. Congrats to Kevin and Jennifer Payne on your win!
We understand the YouTube live stream cut off during the pro division and we really aren't sure why, but rest assured we are trying to fix these glitches to be able to bring you the entertainment if you can't be with us in person. If any of you have suggestions or know ways to increase the bandwidth so we can improve this for you all please reach out. Thanks to our social media committee Adam Holmes and Jeff Harmston for videoing the contest and to Adam as well for trying to troubleshoot the YouTube stream.
Results are attached, on the CSA app, website and facebook. Russ Eaton also was taking pictures so you can go to his page to check those out. Remember our private page is open for posting so if you took pictures of this weekend post them up there for all to see!
Last but not least, thanks to the CSA crew who ran the contest: Carlton Vinson, Brandi Dockery, Vickie Chambers and Jeff Harmston. Dale and Jim Hern as well as Adam stepped in when needed.
Next contest on the books is a 2 day event at Midway Music Hall in Winston-Salem, NC on June 26th and 27th. We will get hotel information and flyer info out soon! In the meantime, there will be plenty of dancing opportunities at SOS and your local s**g clubs! Go support them when you can and I hope to see everyone at SOS (email about parade and social gatherings will also come out soon).
