This is some special footage. At least to me. It’s not often that you catch a species in the act of one of their “special features” Australoheros Montanus in the process of building a mucus nest for their wigglers.
You’d think that common species were easy to spawn. Not all of them. Octofasciatus and the infamous oscar being two of the more difficult of commonly available new world cichlids. Cyanoguttatus is one of them, for me at least. Wild fish are usually harder to spawn than captive breds. I’ve been waiting on these to spawn for about two years now. Finally happened. Herichthys Cyanoguttatus F0 San Juan TX Río Grande
The ferociousness of Chiapaheros Grammodes. Was a task to even clean the glass. Not hard to see why they are pound for pound the most deadly new world Cichlid
Throwback to 2020 This is definitely one of my most favorite videos I’ve ever shot. Hypselecara Temporalis is a amazing species. Probably the most intelligent new world Cichlid. The species just has everything going for it. They display a variety of behavior in this vid. The Temporalis pair and Kraussi pair both had fry at the same time. While the kraussi pair muscled them for the prime breeding location in the tank, that didn’t matter. The Temporalis sieged the kraussi pair. Tirelessly. To the point where at feeding time the kraussi were so hungry they left their nest unattended to grab food. The Temporalis pair then briefly took over their nest, then stole all of their fry and moved them to their area. The kraussi were pissed, totally bamboozled. The male Temporalis giving fin flicks the whole time. Signals to the young to stay where they are, actual visible communication, and so cunning. Amazing species
