Starting at 6 p.m., in downtown Bloomington, there will be live music and then at around 8:30 p.m. is when the main show will begin, which will be a 360-degree projection mapping on the McLean County Museum of History. Faculty members Simone Downie, Chris Lackey, and Annie Sungkajun have been working hard on this so would love to see folks there!

See "A Message to the Community" at Schroeder Hall Gallery from Fall 2026-Spring 2027! This exhibition is currently on display as part of Typeforce 14 in Chicago, but will return to Normal for the Opening Reception on September 17, 2026 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Hall Gallery.

"A Message to the Community" brings together letterpress prints created by students enrolled in Graphic Design History over the past four years. At the center of the exhibition is community: words composed, set, inked, and pressed by students as deliberate message addressed to their community. Rather than treating letterpress solely as a historical technique, these prints celebrate it as a living medium for communication, reflection, and civic engagement.

Together, the works in "A Message to the Community" highlight letterpress printing as a form of expression rooted in care, intention, and connection. The physical act of setting type and printing by hand slows communication down, emphasizing presence, labor, and authorship in a way that digital media often obscures. Each impression becomes a record of both thought and touch, linking the maker to the reader through shared space and language.

Exhibit curated by Katie Krcmarik, our very own Associate Professor of Graphic Design.
