The beginning of a new painting is always a daunting experience. First I must find an image I wish to paint, or if lucky, someone requests a painting and supplies this image.
Next I see a blank white page. The desired image must be hand drawn onto the paper. It’s grueling for me to sketch, it’s my least favorite part, because I am my biggest critic when it comes to my drawings. I use a pencil that disappears after I paint over it. Fabulous for me in case I don’t like the lines I can simply paint over them and they disappear for me!
Once the image is sketched into the paper I will spend time examining it. Where to begin? A light wash of color over the entire paper, small bits saved to be white for the light area, what comes next it’s the idea of not making a mistake. After a painstaking pencil drawing lined to perfection, there’s nothing worse than starting in the wrong place, or area, or neglecting to save the white area for that glow I want to show in the painting.
So here we start, at the beginning…….this one is going to be quite a challenge. Lot’s of small images in this one, time will tell if it becomes worthy of a post. Can you imagine what it will be?
